THE WORD ON THE STREET IS...

With apologies to a certain secretive GM, I've just got to let the cat out of the bag.

People have been speculating for some time now, but it's pretty much a given what's going to happen, who's going first in this year's draft, so why pretend any longer? Let's just come clean and admit what we all know, that whoever holds the first selection is going to name that multi-talented fan favorite...

How DARE you name yet ANOTHER player! You're ruining the league!

Hehe. Alex Cintron rocks! (Yeah, right.)

Well, now it's official: both Frostbite and Worcester, seemingly, are active in the Cintron Sweepstakes.

and only because the commissioner told us about him and not from our own research.

Glad to have been of service!

Please, tell me when I said I was against it. I never said I was against it, although I was kind of miffed when the first list was sent out. My view now is, basically, "what can be done?" It's in the past. Deal with it. I'm sure Hatfield gets the point (that something like this shouldn't be done). Good luck in the draft.

The real point here is that I'm not constrained from providing resources to assist owners in evaluating talent, especially when I feel it's in the league's best interests. In this case, I'm not rating the players, I'm drawing attention to a class of players (the undrafted) who had significant playing time in the majors last year. That doesn't make any of them necessarily more or less desirable than players in the minors.

And the fact is, the playing field is not level. Even reasonably well-informed new owners not familiar with our league will find the task of determining who is not on our league rosters to be daunting. There are 500+ names to filter out. Returning owners already have a mental template of the players in the league which is probably 95-99 percent accurate, without doing any research whatsoever. You guys are not going to need to expend significant mental power excluding the players who are already in the league. New owners, however, have that problem in spades. What I did essentially levels the playing field for the new owners in that respect, and in that respect only. It may rob you returning owners of a slight advantage over the new owners, but it's not in the best interests of the league to have the draft completely leveraged in your favor, gentlemen. This is a case where the good of the many outweighs individual self-interest.

theres a difference between helping the new people and giving away players.

FYI Soto, Suzuki, and Towles despite what you may think, have not logged a significant amount of time in the majors and, i believe, are still classified as rookies.
