OAKEYLAND 9, BROOKLYN 2
WP: Dontrelle Willis (6-2, 3.90)
LP: Mark Buehrle (7-4, 4.87)

Who are these guys? The Ballers have emerged in the last two weeks as the loop’s hottest club, winning four times in their last at-bat, and they did it again on Game Day 64, with Jorge Posada banging out four hits, including his eighth homer, to lead a 12-hit attack against Mark Buerhle and three Moabs relievers. Brooklyn, hinting that SS Edgar Renteria may be available, may well be reaching the critical point, despite being only one game under .500 and just six games out in the league’s most murderous division. With their latest victory, Oakeyland has improved to 36-32, just a game and a half behind Las Vegas: after a sorry April and May, it now appears there may be a race in the Central after all!

ARIZONA 8, SAN JOSE 7
WP: Felix Hernandez (2-2, 5.12)
LP: Barry Zito (3-7, 4.44)

Backup catcher Toby Hall homered and doubled, Mark Loretta drove in five runs with a three-run homer and a two-run single off Barry Zito, and the D-Backs (34-31) held on to stay eight games behind West-leading Yuma, which was idle. The Rockets scored five late runs against the D-Backs to make it close, but despite all that they fell to 27-40, and have now allowed 335 runs after leading their division for the first two weeks of the season. Time to trade veterans for pitching, I guess...

FROSTBITE FALLS 7, LAS VEGAS 4
WP: Johann Santana (8-4, 3.28)
LP: Brad Penny (4-5, 2.68)

Johann Santana went all the way to outduel former teammate Brad Penny, and Albert Pujols hit his team-leading 24th homer of the season as the Squirrels (35-32) kept pace in the tight Eastern division. Alfonso Soriano committed his league-leading 32nd error of the year as the Luchadores head-scratching second sacker, the only possible chink in the Lounge Lizards play this year, but the club (36-29) still holds the lead in the Central Division.

DARWIN 7, POTTSYLVANIA 4
WP: Jose Contreras (6-3, 4.00)
LP: David Wells (2-9, 4.74)

The host Creepers (22-45) committed a season-high five errors, including two by banged-up shortstop David Eckstein, as the season of horrors for the defending Central champs continued, with David Wells looking more and more like trade bait every day, pitching well but again be shouldered with a ton of unearned runs, which Bill Hall (3 RBI) was quick to cash in for the visiting Finches, who improved to 37-27. Shortly before the game, the club received even more bad news, with both C Ramon Hernandez and CF Jim Edmonds out indefinitely for the second time this year...

WORCESTER 5, S-MART 3
WP: Jeremy Sowers (7-5, 4.97)
LP: Javier Vazquez (3-4, 4.43)

Jeremy Sowers went seven innings to stop a personal five-game losing streak, and Mark Teixeira singled with the bases loaded to key a five-run eighth, as the Elims rallied to hang another defeat on the Boom Sticks (23-40) overworked pitching staff. Carl Crawford had two hits in the inning against two different pitchers, and has raised his average to .254 over his last ten games, while S-Mart 2B Dan Uggla homered in a losing cause, his eighth of the season. With the win, Worcester maintains its lead in the East, improving to 38-26.
