CREEPERS ACE OUTDUELS JIMINEZ
Pottsylvania---The host Creepers ran their winning streak to five games in dramatic fashion, with ace Chris Carpenter pitching a no-hitter and CF Matt Kemp hitting a solo shot off Brooklyn's #1 for a 1-0 win!

Carpenter (10-7, 3.22) allowed only a two-out walk to Moabs 3B Ian Stewart in the second, but was otherwise perfect. His problem? With the no-no in progress, opposite moundman Ubaldo Jiminez (11-4, 3.63) was similarly sensational, taking a two-hit shutout into the eighth. But mercurial Creepers CF Matt Kemp greeted Jiminez with a laser shot that just cleared the wall in left-center, a huge home run under the circumstances, to end the whitewash. Jiminez also allowed a two-out walk to Hideki Matsui, but retired light-hitting Blake DeWitt on a comebacker to keep it a one-run ballgame.
Carpenter, despite the narrowness of the lead, was allowed to pursue the no-hit bid in the top of the ninth. Jimmy Rollins grounded out, pinch-hitter Vernon Wells skied a can of corn out to left, and Jacoby Ellsbury topped an easy ground ball to DeWitt, whose throw across the diamond was.....
IN TIME! A NO-HITTER FOR CARPENTER and a huge win for the Creepers, pulling them two games above .500 and within striking distance of East-leading Casselton....!
Here's the box score in all its glory, below:

FRIARS INK VETERAN KONERKO, GET IMMEDIATE DIVIDEND
St. Francis----The Friars signed veteran slugger Paul Konerko to a split contract for the rest of the season, placing him in their lineup, and he delivered some run production immediately, with Konerko hitting an RBI single to put St. Francis up 2-1, then collecting a walkoff single with the bases loaded and two down in the top of the ninth versus visiting Worcester.
The Eliminators had rallied back after starter Anibal Sanchez (4.2 IP, 5 H, 4 BB) couldn't finish the fifth, with superstar 2B Robinson Cano hitting his 16th dong of the season to tie the score in the eighth off reliever Brandon Lyon. But Joaquin Benoit retired the only hitter he faced in the top of the ninth after Cano tripled with two out, and the Eliminators would be edged 3-2 in the ninth on Konerko's second RBI single of the afternoon, making a winner of Benoit (1-0, 2.84).
As with every free-agent signing this year since 'Trader Jack' McKeon unofficially took the reins, the Friars will have to expose Konerko to the 2011 Draft, and with a full cap, seem unlikely to make any more moves this season. In order to add Konerko as their latest 'rent-a-player', the Friars had to eat the salary of 'franchise player' Felipe Lopez. The veteran utility IF, not hitting much and essentially sitting so that another free agent (Neil Walker) can get some AB's, was deemed expendable enough that the club absorbed his million-dollar contract as well as paying Konerko millions for a couple of months of production.
In other BARB action:
OAKLAND 8, CASSELTON 4
WP: Wade Davis (2-2, 2.45)
LP: John Lackey (9-4, 3.66)
Ben Zobrist drove in six runs with a pair of three-run homers to ignite the United offense in his best day in an Oakland 'uni' to date, and rookie Wade Davis fanned 11 Horned Toads over six-plus frames to frustrate Central-leading (56-38) Casselton.
YUMA 4, MADTOWN 2
WP: Roy Halladay (9-7, 3.87)
LP: Jason Vargas (1-5, 5.12)
SV: Soriano (2)
Long-time Yuma cleanup man Vladimir Guerrero homered in each of his first two at-bats, and Roy Halladay does what he does best, which is to say stifle opposing hitters as the Firebirds (51-42) became (get this) the third team in their division to reach 51 games. Ironically, both Darwin and Madtown have had the same number of wins, but are five back in the loss column.
