"F-ROD" SIMPLY A FRAUD, PERHAPS A
FELON?

Office of the League Commissioner----BARB Commisioner Scott Hatfield issued a brief statement confirming media reports that Brooklyn closer Francisco Rodriguez has been placed on the restricted list following an arrest for what was described as 'family violence.'
"I'm not in the criminal justice system," said an irritable Hatfield to reporters. "I don't want to answer any questions about Mr. Rodriguez's situation. We just think it's best that he doesn't come to the ballpark right now until these questions are answered, whether you look at it in terms of his best interests, or in Brooklyn's, or in the league's."
Insiders speculated that Rodriguez was unlikely to return in any meaningful way for the rest of the 2010 season, a bitter blow to the pennant hopes of the Moabs, who led the East for much of this season but have seen much of their team's core sidelined by injuries. Rodriguez's alleged assault on a relative was the latest in a series of critical news stories about the closer's personal life. "This is not what we want to see in a player," said Commisioner Hatfield. "Either what we're hearing is bad, and thus fiction....or else Mr. Rodriguez has become the poster child for bad choices, and is not the person he claims to be. Frankly, there could be a felony conviction for this down the road, so it's nothing to joke about, I don't know why you guys with the Yankee hats sitting in the back row are snickering."
CASSELTON 5, BROOKLYN 3 (10 innings)
WP: Bobby Jenks (6-5, 2.39)
LP: J.J. Putz (1-2, 8.59)
SV: Zambrano (1)
Bobby Jenks blew another save, but this time was picked up, as Jose Lopez and Justin Upton both took J.J. Putz deep in the top of the tenth, and anger management candidate Carlos Zambrano picked up a rare save to save the gassed Casselton bullpen on the road in Brooklyn.
The loss guaranteed the reeling Moabs another series loss with Francisco Rodriguez (see above news item) the latest to be sidelined on the injury-plagued roster.
FROSTBITE FALLS 5, ST. FRANCIS 3
WP: Matt Garza (7-4, 4.45)
LP: Brett Myers (2-1, 3.12)
SV: Soria (14)
Victor Martinez collected a grand slam in the seventh off a tiring Brett Myers, and threw out Johnny Damon in the ninth with the Friars rallying as the Squirrels won for the eighth time in the last ten games to move within a game-and-a-half of East-leading Worcester. It was the fourth straight loss for the Friars, who are now fielding a roster filled with free agents auditioning for next season.
ARIZONA 8, OAKLAND 7 (10 innings)
WP: Mike Gonzalez (4-5, 6.46)
LP: Matt Capps (2-2, 9.70)
SV: Rauch (2)
Alex Rodriguez broke a tie with an RBI double in the tenth, and the Thunder managed to pull away a win in a game that neither team eager to win. United starter Danny Haren was pounded for seven runs, including a three-run bomb by Alberto Callaspo, but Colby Rasmus tied the game twice with extra-base hits to force extra innings, where Arizona eventually prevailed.
LOS ANGELES 7, WORCESTER 4
WP: Scott Downs (5-0, 3.08)
LP: Craig Breslow (1-2, 2.98)
SV: Lidge (5)
Mark Reynolds hit his team-leading 25th bomb of the year, a three-run shot, to pace a five-run eighth against Worcester's pen, and rookie Mike Stanton added his first-ever BARB circuit shot as the PF Flyers (37-66) finally escaped the BARB cellar after languishing for months with the loop's worst overall W-L record.
YUMA 7, BLACK MESA 2
WP: Matt Cain (10-8, 3.92)
LP: Ricky Romero (1-9, 5.85)
Matt Cain needed 129 pitches to do it, but went all the way for his second complete game of the year with a little help from...himself, as the hurler also had three hits, including an RBI double, to pace the dismantling of visiting Black Mesa. Losers of six straight and nine of their last ten, the Anomalies (33-64) have hit rock-bottom, falling to the league's worst overall W-L record after being just under .500 for most of the season.
MADTOWN 8, DARWIN 1
WP: Vicente Padilla (1-4, 5.97)
LP: Jonathan Sanchez (3-9, 5.11)
Prince Fielder smacked his team-leading 31st bomb, and Dan Uggla added his 15th to knock out Jonathan Sanchez to keep the Murlocs (54-46) within a half-game of West-leading Yuma. It also marked the first time that mercenary free agent Vicente Padilla had made a decent start for the club, a major disappointment for Jeff 'Chops' Braga down the stretch. The Finches, meanwhile, saw their winning streak halted at five games and in the process fell a game behind Madtown!
