STANDINGS (August 8th, 'game time')
ARIZONA 3, BROOKLYN 1
WP: Ricky Nolasco (11-7, 4.67)
LP: Francisco Liriano (1-4, 5.97)
Manny Ramirez's pinch-double broke up a no-hitter with two down in the eighth, scoring Darin Barton, but that was pretty much a miracle the way Ricky Nolasco was pitching...and hitting! Nolasco would fan ten, hit an RBI double, score the same inning and then go the distance to become just the third pitcher in BARB to reach the 11-win mark, sending the host Moabs (53-42) to their fourth loss in their last five games.
Brooklyn dropped four games behind East-leading Worcester with the loss, which comes on the heels of losing 1B and cleanup man Ryan Howard, the latest in a series of high-profile injuries to their lineup of veteran sluggers.
LOS ANGELES 2, FROSTBITE FALLS 1
WP: Tim Hudson (7-8, 4.33)
LP: Cole Hamels (8-5, 4.14)
SV: Maine (2)
Nick Swisher and Mark Reynolds hit solo bombs off Squirrels starter Cole Hamels, and Tim Hudson posted six shutout frames to help the bottom-dwelling PF Flyers halt Frostbite Falls' winning streak at six games. Frostbite Falls (50-42) couldn't do anything with Hudson, and by the time Victor Martinez hit a pinch-single for the club's only run, there were two outs and an empty bench.
OAKLAND 10, ST. FRANCIS 2
WP: Brad Penny (4-6, 4.37)
LP: Gavin Floyd (5-10, 3.48)
Spot starter Brad Penny helped his cause with a bases-loaded double, then fanned eight Friars in seven innings to nail the thing down in a one-sided affair for the host United club. Former Friars star Ben Zobrist, quiet of late, finally did some damage against his old team, hitting his 21st bomb of the campaign off ineffective reliever Cliff Richard.
POTTSYLVANIA 9, WORCESTER 3
WP: Fausto Carmona (3-3, 4.30)
LP: Joba Chamberlain (1-1, 5.64)
Blake DeWitt hit a three-run HR in the second and added a pair of sac flies later in the game to drive in a career-high five runs in a BARB contest, and Fausto Carmona worked eight strong innings for his second win as a member of the Creepers rotation, as Pottsylvania (46-47) won for the seventh time in their last nine games.
CASSELTON 11, MADTOWN 5
WP: Johann Santana (8-4, 4.33)
LP: Jeff Niemann (9-8, 4.40)
WP: Ricky Nolasco (11-7, 4.67)

WP: Johann Santana (8-4, 4.33)
LP: Jeff Niemann (9-8, 4.40)
Jeff Niemann did not survive the first despite getting the first two outs, giving up a pair of solo HR (Lee, Upton), but the back-breaker was a bases-loaded double to opposite number Johann Santana, who would go into the seventh with an 11-2 lead before needing some relief help. With the win, the Horned Toads (55-37) snapped a four-game losing skid and maintained their commanding lead in the Central.
