Darwin and Yuma are idle.
TEXAS 6, FROSTBITE FALLS 1
WP: Zach Duke (1-2, 5.94)
LP: Cole Hamels (1-1, 4.61)
Zach Duke prevailed in a duel of curveballing southpaws, using 115 pitches in going the distance against the world champs, and rookie Chris Davis hit a pair of dingers off Cole Hamels to lead the Tornados (4-9) over the visiting Squirrels in Texas. With the loss, Frostbite fell two games off the pace from Eastern-leading Worcester.
ST. FRANCIS 8, BROOKLYN 6
WP: Jamie Moyer (1-1, 5.51)
LP: Jon Lester (2-2, 3.08)
SV: Francisco (4)
Ryan Howard hit a pair of homers to raise his BARB-leading total to eight, but the big blow in this game was a bases-loaded triple by Casey Blake as part of a four-run first, more than enough for ancient Jamie Moyer to bob-and-weave his way to the seventh. Howard’s second homer made the game interesting, but Frank Francisco struck out pinch-hitter Brian McCann with runenrs on to seal the victory for the Friars (5-10).
BLACK MESA 11, LAS VEGAS 8
WP: Scott Eyre (1-0, 2.08)
LP: Aaron Heilman (0-1, 13.00)
Two clubs that could use more pitching slugged it out on Game Day 15, and the Anomalies prevailed thanks to three hits from Ian Kinsler and RBI from Justin Morneau, who raised his BARB-leading total of ribbies to 21. Neither Kevin Millwood or Ian Snell made it past the fourth, but the Anomalies (9-8) pulled it out (and above .500). Will Black Mesa cash in their extra outfielders to get some arms?
WORCESTER 6, LOS ANGELES 4
WP: Ryan Dempster (2-2, 6.40)
LP: Justin Duscherer (0-3. 4.82)
SV: Morrow (7)
Hanley Ramirez and Grady Sizemore both homered to help support a so-so effort from Ryan Dempster, and hot closer Brandon Morrow collected his BARB-leading seventh save of the season to preserve the win for the Eliminators, who now improve to an East-leading 12-5. Things are going so good for Matt Caskey’s troops that he may even be in a position to deal pitching...how often does that happen?
Darwin, Yuma and Casselton all appear to have pitching depth as well.
