FREE AGENT SIGNINGS

The Pottsylvania Creepers have bolstered their depth by signing versatile IF/OF Aubrey Huff (.304, 32 HR, 108 RBI last year with Baltimore). Huff, a minor-league free agent, returned to the Creepers after spending most of 2008 as a AAA insurance policy at a high price, getting a 900 percent hike in salary, from $400,000 to $4,000,000!

The Casselton Horned Toads, who released C Johnny Estrada, picked up a backup for starting C Geovany Soto in former Frostbite Falls backstop John Buck (a .236 career hitter with Kansas City).

The Texas Tornadoes plucked a former Yuma prospect, LHP Troy Patton, off the dumpster as part of their attempt to rebuild the former S-Mart franchise's depleted minor-league system. Patton, a former Astros farmhand, was once considered one of the top ten southpaws in the minor leagues and is attempting to come back from arm injuries.

The Black Mesa franchise also tabbed a former Yuma player, picking up veteran OF Vernon Wells for the 'bargain' price of $4.5 million. The mysterious club thus raises questions about the likely future of Mike Cameron, Scott Hairston, Reed Johnson and other players able to play CF.
