Game Day 106 saw three, count 'em, three shutouts, another win by Chris Carpenter and a BARB-leading 14th triumph for Zack Greinke. The pennant race, it seems, is finally on!
BROOKLYN 6, MADTOWN 0
WP: Roy Oswalt (10-6, 3.46)
LP: Zach Duke (3-12, 6.60)
The Moabs ace pitched his best game of the year, a six-hit shutout, but it was also his third complete game in his last six outings, a sign that Oswalt may be finally hitting his stride in the pennant race for Brooklyn, which improved to 61-50 with help from Shane Victorino, who had three hits, including his seventh home run of the year. The once-powerful Murlocs lineup continues to limp along offensively, with their 430 runs scored 12th in the league....
FROSTBITE FALLS 7, YUMA 0
WP: Tim Lincecum (10-7, 2.78)
LP: Matt Cain (7-8, 3.97)
Cain, the original ‘hard luck’ loser, allowed only two runs through seven frames, but Lincecum was dominant for nine innings: the Squirrels ‘horse’ needed 134 pitches to do it, but he scattered six hits and fanned eight Yuma hitters. His teammates tacked on the insurance runs that kept in the game off the Firebirds pen to impove to 62-49, the club’s fourth straight win. The Firebirds, meanwhile, dropped their fourth straight game. You can’t blame the pitching: despite dealing Carlos Zambrano and losing Jake Peavy to injuries, the Firebird staff is second in team ERA (3.56). The one club better? Frostbite Falls, at 3.44 (owch)!
FRESNO 4, BLACK MESA 0
WP: Danny Haren (12-5, 3.43)
LP: Glen Perkins (2-8, 6.18)
Danny Haren went all the way on 108 pitches, allowing eight safeties but getting a double play or a strikeout when needed to hand the Anomalies their fourth straight loss. Adrian Gonzalez homered (#21), but the big bat for the Regulators was Carlos Lee, who had four hits, among them his 25th blast of the season. Black Mesa (47-52) is still within eyeshot of .500, but with a pitching staff ranked dead last in virtually every category can’t be expected to contend. Veteran BARB observers expect this club to deal some of their veteran offensive help for pitching prospects this month . . .
POTTSYLVANIA 12, LOS ANGELES 1
WP: Chris Carpenter (8-1, 2.32)
LP: Joe Blanton (6-10, 4.37)
Kelly Shoppach drove in five runs with a homer, double and a pair of singles and sat in the ‘rocking chair’ for rejuvenated Creepers ace Chris Carpenter, who vaporized the staggering Flyers lineup. It was the eleventh time in 15 starts that Carpenter had allowed two runs or less this year, and allowed the Creepers (56-46) to finally pass the Horned Toads. It was the fifth straight win for Pottsylvania, which has been buoyed by news of the imminent return of the long-sidelined Pedro Martinez.
ST. FRANCIS 2, CASSELTON 1
WP: Gavin Floyd (5-12, 5.12)
LP: John Danks (12-6, 3.54)
Brandon Inge tripled leading off the seventh and scored the go-ahead run, and Gavin Floyd (working on a four-hitter and having already fanned seven) was given the opportunity to go all the way by the pitching-starved Fryers, and this time the long leash paid off. Floyd, who has lost several games in the seventh this season, was solid throughout, the only run by the Horned Toads coming after an error by CF Ben Zobrist. Casselton (56-49) has now fallen more than a game out of first in the Central
DARWIN 4, WORCESTER 3
WP: Zack Greinke (14-3, 3.11)
LP: Joba Chamberlain (9-9, 3.21)
SV: Gregg (12)
Jason Bay homered in the ninth off Greinke to make things interesting for the Eliminators, but the Finches (58-41) maintained the loop’s best winning percentage by edging Worcester on the road in New England. Darwin was lucky to cash in an insurance run in the seventh following an error by Hanley Ramirez, and continues to be in the market for an offensive-minded infielder.

Brian, your team is bad. No way around it. But you're not having the worst season in BARB history.
That belongs to Jeff Moore's 2007 Pottsylvania Creepers at 49-107, .314 W%. You are also on pace to finish ahead of Jeff Moore's original team, the 2003 Boise Brawlers (51-111, .315); the 2004 Worcester Eliminators (56-104, .350; it was Matt's first season and he deliberately tanked it to get the #1 pick); and the 2008 Creepers (51-100, .342).
There's a lot more parity in the league nowadays. I'm sure your team will compete soon, especially in that division.
i did not deliberately tank anything andrew. i inherited a bad team. and i turned it around. quit picking fights.
Geez, Matt. You're the one picking fights. Why are you so uptight?
I was just pointing out that there have been some other bad teams. I know you inherited a terrible team, and I seem to remember you saying you were deliberately playing your lesser players more so you would lose more and have the #1 pick. Nothing wrong with that, IMO.
someone needs a nap
For the record, Brian, I think you have excellent depth at third base and am more than willing to talk trade for Reynolds, Lowell or even Tuiasosopu!
why do you drag me into every discussion andrew? i have never said i wanted to deliberately lose. youre putting words in my mouth. youre wrong simple as that, so stop it.
and if youre tired chris, then take a nap. you dont need to tell the world. this isnt twitter.
i guess not everyone gets sarcasm
any how, u said so yourself that you were going to tank midway through the first year so you could get the #1 pick. you gloated about it and everything. i remember, ron does, and im sure jeff may. its not like your frowning upon you or anything we are just giving an example
