HEARD AROUND TH LEAGUE!

GAME DAY 64:

DARWIN 4, WORCESTER 1

WP: Josh Johnson (9-2, 3.02)
LP: Adam Wainwright (5-2, 5.38)
SV: Meredith (3)

Josh Johnson became the league’s first nine-game winner, falling just short of a complete-game effort when he needed some relief help from the Finches pen. Jason Bay, one of the league’s true gamers, took over the loop’s lead in boundary belts with his 22nd homer of the year in a losing cause. The Elims have gone 3-7 in their last ten games, but remain seven games in front.

ST. FRANCIS 8, POTTSYLVANIA 5

WP: Justin Verlander (4-4, 3.85)
LP: Braden Looper (1-5, 4.71)
SV: Sherrill (3)

Johnny Damon hit a one-out triple after Chad Tracy’s throwing error loaded the bases for the Friars, as the visitors scored four times in the sixth off Braden Looper to ‘improve’ to 24-33 in league play. Justin Verlander, bombed in his last outing for six runs, was workmanlike in this game but expressed hope that rumored promotions within St. Francis’s farm system will give the club a boost this coming week.

CASSELTON 7, TEXAS 5

WP: Carlos Zambrano (4-4, 5.10)
LP: Zach Duke (1-8, 6.35)

Carlos Zambrano, on the DL and traded twice within two week’s time, got a measure of payback by taking a 7-3 lead into the ninth before needing help. ‘Big Z’ repeatedly gestured ominously toward the Tornadoes dugout, as if urging GM/owner Ronald Melkonian to show his face in a road game, but to no avail. Zach Duke, meanwhile, became the league’s first eight-game loser, coughing up homers to Atkins, Bruce, Hunter and Lee . . .

FRESNO 10, BLACK MESA 6

WP: Josh Beckett (5-5, 4.08)
LP: Ted Lilly (3-4, 6.21)

Freddy Sanchez hit a grand slam as part of a seven-run first, and Josh Beckett was able to cruise to any easy win despite not having great stuff (7 H, 3 BB) as the Regulators laid a whipping on visiting Black Mesa. Wright, Abreu and Lee also went deep for the Regulators as one Guerra Brother gained bragging rights, if only temporarily, over the other . . .

YUMA 4, FROSTBITE FALLS 2

WP: Roy Halladay (8-3, 2.75)
LP: Felix Hernandez (2-4, 4.92)

Roy Halladay went all the way for his BARB-leading fifth route-going effort, and Vladimir Guerrero hit a pair of sac flies off ‘King Felix’, who allowed only four hits but walked seven in as many frames to set up a long afternoon for the host Squirrels.

Yeah Ronald, I am a "fool" for not pursuing Zack Duke!

Landon Bolt said...

Haha, me too. He wanted Duke in the Z deal for Alex Rios and Gordan Beckham.

Ok first lets get some things straight..

Duke's current 2009 season isn't being recognized by the simulation because HATFIELD HASN'T UPDATED THE STATS FROM LAST YEAR'S!!! Come on Eric, don't dummy up here. You know that Hatfield doesn't update stats until BARB's All-Star break. I don't blame Landon for not knowing perhaps but he should know by now.

Duke's numbers are VERY different from 08' to 09' so Duke will be a completely different pitcher come the second half!

Oh and FYI: Rios will go backwards with his 09 stats in the second half and Eric, your in need of SP help and everyone, even you, know's that.

Oh how's Cameron Maybin?? Remember when you wanted what like a top notch player for him. Yeah working out real great right???? HA

the jury is still out on what statistics the simulation uses. for all any of us know the statistics used could be from the previous mlb season in entirety, not split by halfs. the only one of us that know for sure is hatfield. advantage? unfair?

Matt Caskey said...

hey ronald, maybin is 20ish? hell be fine. but wait, 20 is close to 30 so he almost done with his prime? did i get that right?

Andrew Haynes said...

I can't believe you posted a loss for my team on my birthday! How inconsiderate! Haha.

Matt, if you paid attention you'd know the simulation uses the stats from the full previous season. It was said when you entered the league, a few times each year after that, and I have said it a few times this year. I asked Hatfield myself; he said we do, indeed use the full season stats.

Landon Bolt said...

right but the 1st half eventually gets incorporated into the performance of the players eventually correct?

I think so. So what have we learned? A) Duke is HIGHLY overrated. He had ONE good half after 2 pathetic seasons. I still do not know how he made the all-star team over Jair Jurjjens or Javy Vazquez.
B) Why would I settle for anything less than a top notch player for Maybin. He will be fine. He is hitting .350 last I checked in the minors. He is still growing into his body as a 21 year old, I am not worried.
C) You always offer deal then recant at the last moment IF you haven't already traded the player LOL Cheate-Ron. I maintain I should have King Felix, Justin Upton, Alex Gordon, and Jay Bruce among others from deals you recant. SO do you really blame me for not dealing with you. I DO NOT WNAT to waste my time.

Landon- yeah, the first half of the current season is added into the full previous season for an update. I'd guess that will happen soon.

ah ha! im hearing alot of "i thinks" amongst people (even you andrew). all question marks can be easily erased by a simple explanation from the only one in the league (has in impressive playoff resume) that has the answer, hatfield. All i want is an explanation from the source. Is that really too much to ask?

I think there is some truth to all of everyone. Did I miss out on some stats somewhere along the line? I can see for myself the league leaders and I hate to say it, but I have very few anywhere (even the offense). Any idea of when an All-Star break for us may be? And is it open season for the dead-teams around the league? I see the Melkonians (1/2 is flat out cheater) have already made deals with the new kid. Great, I think I won that pool! lol.

Andrew Haynes said...

Matt, I haven't said "I think" anywhere in regards to the stats in the program. Why is it so hard for you to believe me?

Matt Caskey said...

youre right andrew. you said "i guess" not "i think". my fault. i personally would rather here the truth from the top. any arguments we have can be easily put down but a simple explanation from hatfield. all this arguing is worthless when a simple short paragraph of league statistics by hatfield would end it.

Andrew Haynes said...

Matt, I do realize I said "I guess," but that was referring to when Hatfield updates the statistics, not what stats are used as the base files.

Matt Caskey said...

what process does he use to update the statistics? does he manually go through every player and update profiles (I doubt it) or does he download a file? if he downloads a file he knows what statistics are being used and from what point in the season they apply. Answer that for me andrew. if not, then stop taking up a defense and let hatfield answer. thats what i care about anyway.

Andrew Haynes said...

Last season during the playoffs he had to update stats on some rookies whose files had not updated. He had to manually go to MLB.com and put the files into the player files in DMB. He's said in the past that the stat update takes a long time; I saw him do it for just a few guys and it definitely takes a while.
