GAME DAY 62

HEARD AROUND THE LOOP....

BROOKLYN 8, WORCESTER 2

WP: James Shields (6-3, 3.87)
LP: Jeremy Guthrie (4-5, 4.56)

Jermaine Dye homered, Jacoby Elsbury stole a pair of bases with Joe Mauer behind the plate and the Moabs (30-29) remained in a tie with Frostbite Falls for second place in the surprisingly sluggish Eastern Division. The Eliminators (37-22) have lost four straight, their longest losing stretch of the season, but still lead the loop in runs scored (326) and, thus, in won-loss record.

POTTSYLVANIA 2, LOS ANGELES 1

WP: Mark Buehrle (4-2, 3.78)
LP: John Maine (2-5, 4.57)

Mark Buerhle stopped the Flyers’ winning streak at five games with a complete game effort, his only major mistake a two-out solo shot to red-hot (5 HR in the last 7 games) Jim Thome. Despite the win, the injury-plagued Creepers (24-26) are still five-plus games behind surprising Casselton in the Central.

DARWIN 3, LAS VEGAS 0

WP: Zack Greinke (6-1, 2.96)
LP: Ervin Santana (0-4, 3.75)

Zack Greinke gave up a pair of two-out doubles, but was otherwise masterful, going all the way on 114 pitches to whitewash the last-place Luchadores. The Finches (35-20) thus maintained their four-game lead in the West, but they will do it without All-Star CF Josh Hamilton, who has been placed on the disabled list for the second time this season.

FRESNO 4, FROSTBITE FALLS 3

WP: Chad Qualls (2-3, 2.65)
LP: Paul Maholm (4-4, 4.48)
SV: Cordero (7)

Bobby Abreu snapped a 3-3 tie when he leadoff the seventh with a fly ball off the foul pole, and the Regulators (27-32) won their third straight against Eastern Division foes thanks to three scoreless innings from their pen. Despite the wins, Fresno is ten games out in the East and has played only .500 ball over the last three weeks.

YUMA 6, BLACK MESA 0

WP: C.C. Sabathia (5-4, 3.30)
LP: Kevin Millwood (4-4, 6.82)

C.C. Sabathia went all the way, scattering seven hits for his third complete game (and second shutout) of the year. Ryan Braun led the offense with his ninth boundary blast of the campaign, a three-run shot, as the Firebirds (32-25) kept pace in the West.

CASSELTON 5, ST. FRANCIS 1

WP: Carlos Zambrano (3-4, 3.25)
LP: Gavin Floyd (3-5, 4.76)

Just-activated Carlos Zambrano won his first game in a Casselton ‘uni’ by going all the way, and Justin Upton (fighting for playing time behind Jay Bruce and Alex Rios) hit his first homer of the season to lead the Horned Toads (30-21) stretched their lead in the Central to three games.

Someone explain to me How Steven Shell is eligible.....

Ack.

Here are the league eligibility rules:

Let a PITCHER be considered ELIGIBLE for BARB play when they have amassed either 10 appearances or 25 innings pitched in the current season or 20 appearances or 50 innings pitched in the prior season plus at least 5 appearances or 10 innings pitched in the current season.

Checking out Shell's stats, I discover that last year he had precisely 50 innings pitched. But this season? (gulp) he has five INNINGS, rather than appearances, of which he has only four. This is a clerical error on my part and Shell will have to be demoted. I don't think he's appeared in many BARB games, but this is why we have eligibility requirements.

Well I knew he was elgible from last years stats, which is when I put in my roster... I can't tell the future... at one point, nobody had an inning pitched or an at bat.
