BROOKLYN 9, POTTSYLVANIA 4
WP: Roy Oswalt (2-2, 3.55)
LP: Cliff Lee (0-2, 4.50)
Roy Oswalt pitched into the eighth and both Jason Bay and Miguel Cabrera homered for the Moabs (13-8) as part of a four-run sixth to stump the host Creepers(6-14) in Pottsylvania. Ichiro Suzuki had three hits and a pair of stolen bases as part of the Moabs’ attack. Through 22 games, Brooklyn leads all BARB clubs with 126 runs scored.
YUMA 2, LEXINGTON 1
WP: Manny Corpas (1-1, 6.10)
LP: Brandon Webb (3-1, 2.97)
Previously-unbeaten Rebels starter Brandon Webb’s 93rd pitch of the ball game was outside the strike zone, but that didn’t keep Firebirds RF Vladimir Guerrero from hitting it out of the ball park, a one-out walkoff job in the ninth, as Yuma (14-10) thrilled the home crowd by edging visiting Lexington (13-9).
BLACK MESA 9, CASSELTON 2
WP: Andy Pettite (3-0, 1.24)
LP: Aaron Harang (0-3, 4.50)
Andy Pettite, a castoff apparently unwanted by any other BARB club, went the distance to help the Anomalies improve to 12-10, twirling a three-hitter while both Justin Morneau and Rafael Furcal collected three hits. The Horned Toads have now dropped eight straight games, and now sport the loop’s worst record at 6-16.
DARWIN 1, OAKEYLAND 0
WP: Jonathan Broxton (1-0, 2.38)
LP: Aaron Fultz (2-2, 1.64)
SV: Accardo (2)
A pair of southpaws (Jeff Francis and Oliver Perez) left nothing on the field, each departing with the game still scoreless, where it was decided in the ninth by Darwin’s bench, as Carlos Guillen (pinch-hitting for Khalil Greene) hit a two-out solo homer in the top of the ninth to lift the Finches (12-6) over host Oakeyland, who despite the loss still leads the moribund Central with an 8-11 mark.
LAS VEGAS 8, WORCESTER 5
WP: Aaron Heilman (3-0, 2.65)
LP: Matt Guerrier (1-2, 1.80)
SV: Rivera (5)
Jorge Posada, Matt Holliday and pinch-hitter Jason Kubel all went deep in the late innings, as the Flamingoes (8-12) flashed their trademark power at the expense of visiting Worcester (9-10), which dropped below .500 despite five solid innings (3 H, 1 ER) from rookie Jeremy Guthrie. Through 22 games, Las Vegas has allowed 119 runs, more than any other club, but they’ve stayed competitive in their last ten games through brute force, outhomering their opposition by a margin of 15 to 6.
