S-MART 8, BROOKLYN 7 (11 innings)
WP: Jose Valverde (1-1, 2.00)
LP: Damaso Marte (0-1, 2.70)
Melky Cabrera hit an RBI triple in the eighth and then scored the tying run, and then doubled leading off the bottom of the 11th to set up the winning run, as the host Boom Sticks (6-8) rallied from a 7-3 deficit to edge visiting Brooklyn (10-7).
LEXINGTON 13, BLACK MESA 4
WP: Johann Santana (1-2, 2.02)
LP: Ted Lilly (2-2, 3.42)
J.J. Hardy homered twice to lead the Rebels attack, and new Lexington ace Johann Santana finally got in the win column on his fourth start of the season as GM Ronald Melkonian’s club improved to 11-7 in an annihilation of host Anomalies (10-9), who gave up six runs in the ninth to turn the affair into a complete laugher.
YUMA 6, CASSELTON 5 (12 innings)
WP: C.J. Wilson (1-0, 0.00)
LP: Brad Hennesey (0-1, 1.08)
Rookie Yunel Escobar had four hits and scored the tying run in the ninth after stealing second, but it was veteran 2B Brian Roberts homering leading off the bottom of the 12th that put things on ice for the defending world champs. Yuma (11-9) won its fourth straight at home, sending the visiting Horned Toads (6-13) to their fifth straight loss.
LAS VEGAS 7, DARWIN 3
WP: Aaron Heilman (2-0, 3.14)
LP: Chuck James (0-2, 40.50)
For the second straight game, recently-activated Chuck James coughed up the go-ahead runs in relief of a so-so Finches starter, and the Luchadores used their potent offense to overcome their problems on defense and pitching. Las Vegas has now won seven of their last ten games to improve to 7-11 overall, just 1.5 games back in the moribund Central, with Alfonso Soriano tripling home a pair and Kelly Johnson getting the clutch double to beat James. Finches starter Chad Billingsley (3.68 ERA) still has failed to reach the sixth inning in any of his starts this season.
OAKEYLAND 7, FROSTBITE FALLS 3
WP: Chad Gaudin (1-0, 6.48)
LP: Rich Hill (1-1, 7.82)
A throwing error by 2B Jeff Kent contributed to six early runs against Rich Hill, as the Ballers (7-8) pretty much put this thing to bed in second inning to win their fifth straight decision and remain atop the crowded heap of mediocrity which is the Central Division. The Squirrels (11-4), who rattled off an eight-game winning streak to start the season, have hit a rough patch since going back on the road.
POTTSYLVANIA 6, WORCESTER 1
WP: Mark Buehrle (3-1, 3.42)
LP: Danny Haren (0-1, 3.90)
Mark Buerhle flirted with another shutout and Aaron Hill, Ryan Garko and Aramis Ramirez all hit towering home runs as the Creepers (5-11) rode their ace lefty’s strong back to a rare win hosting an Eastern Division club. Worcester (7-9) continues to have problems keeping up with the other high-scoring offenses in the competitive Eastern Division and their latest road trip has been an exercise in futility: despite posting a strong 3.42 ERA over their last ten games.

What position needs upgrading? I have a top 5 player in every position and three top 15 players in the OF. It is pointless to make a trade for a bat. And pitching;
Haren
Bedard
Young
3 Aces. With all this how am i loosing? no other team is a talented as mine. This is dumb.
Matt, do you realize I finish practically every season almost the same way you are starting this one? We all know you have an extremely talented team. You'll hit a hot streak and be at the top pretty soon.
Andrew has the benefit of using his copy of the league software, and so he can tell you that if you run the simulation over and over again, you won't always get the same results. There is a difference in confidence that a club (say, Darwin) is going to be competitive and certainty. I am confident that my club will be competitive, but I'm not certain that I will win, or even finish far above .500.
And, don't kid yourself, your team has flaws. Eric and Andrew have more offense that you do. Most of us have better bench strength and get better late-inning matchups as a result, especially in non-DH games. Your 1-2-3 starters are awful good for 6-7 innings. But I have to say I like Eric's rotation in terms of innings, and I like mine for depth. And you don't have a premium closer, and the rest of us do.
Now, I could make a list of my team's shortcomings as well, don't get me wrong. I've got a lot of old guys, and my left-handed relief is unsettled. I may have to cut one of my veterans pretty soon. The other clubs also have flaws. But for you to imagine, somehow, that no other club is as talented is yours is delusional.
matt, your too self-absorbed into your team.
well chris i just dont believe my team should be preforming at a 7-9 level.
patience matt. every year, i start off increidbly slow, then i get hot. your team isn't going to be 15-2 coming out of the gates. like SH says, your team has flaws and your in a tough division. nothing is guaranteed
Two words: Detroit Tigers
About Matt's team; they could have improved their team via trades (for SP for example), but they locked valuable trading talent up (LOL; why lock up Derek LEE... wasn't smart cause you can't use him every day... well unless you bench TEX)...
Lee is good, but more valuable trading than used as a DH lol.
doesnt it seem like every comment ron has posted had the word trade in it?
just a thought....
i shouldnt have to better my team through trade. It needs no bettering. Why trade two stars to get one.
