MOABS SWAP.....

NOTHING. This post has been reedited. I apologize for the confusion. League offices had originally approved the following:

In a move to bolster their rotation, the Brooklyn Moabs have dealt Jeremy Bonderman and others in a big multi-player deal with the Black Mesa anomalies that nets GM Eric Caskey the services of RHP Justin Verlander.

Details of the proposed deal on Eric's blog, now!

******UPDATE*******

Unfortunately, this deal ran afoul of a new league rule that I neglected to check up on. I just assumed the owners wouldn't attempt to trade any of their keepers or franchise players. Oops.

WOW.

this is like stealing candy from a baby. this trade is not even close to being fair. if i were offered that i would just laugh.

Guzman is a busted prospect. the only thing he has shown is that he has no plate discipline. great that he has power, so does willy mo pena and former prospect brian dopriak. Niemann, for all his talent, hasn't haranessed his control and hasn't shown enough consistency. to me, he is a future lefty reliever. Bonderman, for all of his talent, hasnt shown any consistency, and baker is a fringe average starter. Tabata has a lot of potential, but isn't a deal breaker. Guiterrez is a talented OF and verlander is easy a top ten pitcher. To me, Black Mesa's growth is stunted even more, and i question if ownership knows what they are doing, because after the draft he had this year, i dont see them moving up in the standings at all. that is a guarantee.

By the way eric, great pick-up. he came cheap

I like the trade, obviously since I pulled the trigger. BUT Bonderman is still only 25 with good upside especially when Tiger's offense starts to click. Baker could easily be a 12-15 game winner. Niemann, I felt was expendable because of playing time issues in Tampa. He has great stuff and put up good numbers a season ago in triple A. Guzman is a very versatile player who does have power. At some point, if he cuts down on strike outs, which may happen with playing time, then he could be a very solid player.

if i offered to you, it wouldnt have happened. guzman wont ever figure it our, he hasn't in god knows how many seasons, bakers stuff isn't good enough, and wins a more products of your teams (its all about era's and whips). to me, tabata and baker for guiterrez equals each other, so you pretty much got verlander for bonderman, niemann, and guzman. what a steal.

yea this deal was garbage for the other owner and I'm surprised it wasn't blocked especially when I thought Hatfield would "protect" the new owners!

This trade is Illegal; RHP Justin Verlander is shown on the official roster to be a Keeper for Black Mesa!!!

Andrew Haynes said...

Hmm. The owner of the Nomads makes a valid point. But will it be overturned?

Scott Hatfield . . . . said...

The trade, as Ron and Chris pointed out to me earlier today in an email, is not legit. I've informed the owners in question and adjusted this post. I regret the mistake. This is a new rule put in place, and I just assumed owners wouldn't attempt to trade any of their keepers.

(raises hand) They goofed, and I goofed, too.

WOW. The League makes it seem as if I new I was acquiring a 'Keeper.' If I had offered anything for anyone of your Keepers would you tell me that the player was a Keeper? Yes you would have. I took his word. Funny how Ronald criticizes anyone! At some point, perhaps next winter meetings, we need to discuss penalties for owners who don't tell the truth.

Andrew Haynes said...

Eric, nothing I read in these comments made it seem like people were saying you knew you were getting a keeper. I agree that you probably should have been informed by Nick that you were asking about a keeper. However, it wouldn't have been too hard to look on the roster to see whether he was or not (unless you had a version that didn't have that info).

Matt Caskey said...

technically BARB hasnt started yet, so are keepers in effect? just though id throw that out there.

wow. dumb question! Whats the point of sending in your keepers and Franchise players if they aren't going to be in effect?

And I agree with Andrew... nobody stated or hinted that you knew you were getting a keeper... though I'm surprised you didn't check that, especially when mentioning a guy like Verlander...!

Matt Caskey said...

wow what a dumb person. lets trade jose reyes for a prospect.

now that thats over with.

why send them in? maybe to give SH time to organize them with rosters. i really just think ronald is upset that a trade was made and he wasnt involved.

Clearly I think Matthew is on to something! Ron was really upset he wasn't invited to a deal.

"I just assumed owners wouldn't attempt to trade any of their keepers.

(raises hand) They goofed, and I goofed, too." SH post.

The term "They" means two. I had a roster that did not have protected lists for many teams, on the teams that were predictable. Actually those that have posted about this topic. Sorry I did make him sign a piece of paper saying that the players involved were tradeable. Sorry I didn't ensure he could afford it, since I didn't ask that either. I just "ASSUMED" that if someone approached me for Ryan Howard, I would say that he is franchised, approach me in the offseason. When you assume you make an ass of you and me. I guess it is true.

ejcMOABS said...

Oh and ronald, I propose Cameron Maybin for Webb. Your natural response would be that Webb is protected as a franchise player. Right? Would I have to look that up? NO you tell me that he is protected. DUH

Matt Caskey said...

if it was maybin then the answer would be no. but if it was a first round pick and maybin wasnt on a team the answer would be yes. apparently first round picks are worth more than the player that would be taken with the pick.

ejcMOABS said...

Ah should have known. How about this Ron, I offer my next first round pick (09) for Cole Hamels or Joba Chamberlain!

Um no to all. Its funny how I'm critized heavily on trading away Reyes. The deal improved the overall nature of my team! FOR Reyes, This is what I got:

- OF Colby Rasums
- Rickie Weeks
- Joba Chamberlain
- Matt Weiters (actually Rich Harden... I was going to draft him with that pick, but I decided to use my 4th pick overall in the thrid so matt would have to wait till the 7th I think to pick again...)

So, Weeks gives me a potential stud at 2B (should be in the top 3 2B in baseball by years end), a potential future stud in Rasmus (could be the next coming of a grady sizemore... perhaps better!), Joba Chamberlain who is a flat out stud in the pen (may be perhaps the best, most dominate bullpen pitcher in baseball by years end!) and may just be the future closer for the Yankees, and mr. Harden, when healthy, is one of the best pitchers in all of baseball and right now, with a clean bill of health, looking pretty darn impressive, which locks down my rotation that includes Webb, Santana, Beckett, and Hamels... along with comback man Greinke (could be his breakout year) and hidden gem Nick Blackburn... oh darkhorse Brandon Backe.

Oh Hardy is Reyes' replacement... is fine with the glove, will hit for more power, and hit for a decent average in BARB.

SOOO... you can see now how that trade helped the overall value of my club. It helped my OF, Bullpen, Starting Rotation, and my infield. They will all contribute more to my team than just one player alone!

By the way, you know after talks I'm not parting with Hamels unless I get something great in return (for a pick... I would never trade a star for JUST A PICK!!!) and Chamberlain is my gem; he isn't for sale to anyone for any price!

Oh by the way Eric, hows Verlander??? ha ha lol.

Matt Caskey said...

no no ronald. eric didnt get verlander becuase some GMs cant think. didnt you read the previous comments. jeez its like you have to hold his hand through every step.

Matt Caskey said...

ahahaha rich harden is missing his next start due to soreness in his lat are (back). when i first heard this three seasons ago i didnt think anything of it. i was wrong. well hes your probable now ronald. thanks for the extra pick in the draft.

ejcMOABS said...

Look, Rickie Weeks MUST have a good year. If not, I think he needs a change in scenary. Hardy sucks. look at his numbers this year and they played a three game set at home against the worst team in baseball. He looks lost on the field and i wouldn't count too much on him. Harden is already hurt, but for that one start, you are right he was brilliant. It seems like there are a lot of 'ifs' on your team. Look for 4 starts you know what you are going to get. Your offense is way overrated, and I think you have some holes on the defense. But, you have a great starting rotation of four and a good closer.

As for me, sorry I had a great trade for me go sour bc there are some dumb owners in this league. My bad. Also, sorry I didn't have the most up to date roster!
