I'll say this again: Brandon Philips was the best impact player available and should've been the first player selected. Youngish middle infielders with 30-HR power and above-average speed don't grow on trees.

Reed Johnson was just released, so that's probably the worst first-round selection...unless my guy, Josh Hamilton, falls into drugs again. If he can stay clean, he'll be better than Matt Holliday in about 18 months. You can quote me.

Why was Hamilton traded from Cincy? There must be a reason to trade high, buy low... right?

I think Hamilton was traded from Cincinnati because they have Jay Bruce waiting in the wings and they got a good young pitcher for Hamilton. Of course, Bruce just got sent down, as did Evan Longoria and Cameron Maybin. It seems bad teams aren't ready to play their young players yet.

so why trade there established talent if they arent willing to give the young guys a shot. might as well win while theyre in the minors.
