"Gutless!" bellowed long-time Squirrels OF/DH Barry Bonds, who launched 29 HR and drove in 101 runs in 128 games last year. "He's gutless!"
The object of Barry's ire? The news that Frostbite Falls GM Andrew Haynes no longer considered the major's all-time HR king an untouchable asset, listing him with the rest of the disposable (and, possibly, unprotected) talent on the Frostbite roster:
Conor Jackson
Scott Hatteberg
Morgan Ensberg
Mark Teahen
Erick Aybar
Brad Hawpe
Barry Bonds
Luke Scott
Jason Schmidt
Tom Gordon
Eric Gagne
Scott Linebrink
Chris Capuano
"Scott, what's his name? What's his name, Scott? Washed-up pitchers, part-timers?" growled an aroused Bonds to reporters. "This is the calibre of player I'm lumped with, now? I hope that I go somewhere else and come back to HAUNT these guys."
Despite Bonds' passion, the last threat seemed pretty empty. Bonds would cost another GM at least seven figures on the open market, and the cloud of age, nagging injury and legal problems have made him a leper in the baseball world.
