MOABS SWEEP ELIMS IN DOUBLE DIP!

Brooklyn—At the bottom of the Eastern Division, the host Brooklyn Moabs faced a real gut check, a double-header with the division-leading Eliminators, fresh off a six-game winning streak that included a no-hitter by lefty Eric Bedard. So, if there were any games so far this year that could be said to be a ‘must-win’ for Brooklyn, these were it!

In the opener, Brooklyn got a gem from their ace, Roy Oswalt (5-2, 3.75), who twirled a five-hit shutout in outdueling Worcester lefty Jeremy Sowers (5-2, 3.62). Sowers couldn’t get Moabs SS Edgar Renteria out: the infielder singled in the first, doubled home hot-hitting Casey Blake in the fourth, then hit a two-run single to score Blake and Chase Utley in the seventh. Oswalt, meanwhile, retired six of the last seven Eliminators by way of strikeout, and the Moabs had blanked the visitors, 4-0!

Renteria continued his heroics in the nightcap against Danny Haren (5-4, 3.90). The Moabs SS scored in the first on a McCann single, then triggered a big fourth by beating out an infield hit, stealing second, forcing a passed ball from rookie Ronnie Paulino, then scoring on Miguel Cabrera’s two-run double. All of this led to a 4-3 lead for Moabs starter Mark Buerhle (5-2, 4.34), who combined with Francisco Rodriguez to allow only two scratch singles the rest of the way, with ‘F-Rod’ earning his eighth save of the season.

Brooklyn, needing a sweep, had gotten it! Despite the wins, at 21-25 the Moabs were still last in the East, still eight games out. But the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step....

See, eventually the banner will be hanging in Brooklyn again! Beware, my lineup is having an excellent first half led by my leadoff stud's .358 avg and 20 game hit streak. Rotation has been solid with Buehrle twirling a no-no. K-ROD, not F-Rod, is leading the world in saves with the hot Angels. Just do not count me out, I also have prospects that can be dealt for some veteran help! ZUmaya will come back eventually...
