GAME DAY 46 ACTION!

BLACK MESA 2, SAN JOSE 0 (1st game of DH)
WP: Curt Schilling (3-2, 3.59)
LP: Barry Zito (2-4, 3.03)
SV: Papelbon (10)

BLACK MESA 9, SAN JOSE 4 (2nd game of DH)
WP: Justin Verlander (3-1, 4.07)
LP: John Lackey (2-7, 5.77)

The Anomalies, fresh off the acquisition of OF Hideki Matsui, took a double dip from the staggering San Jose Rockets, who have lost ten straight to fall to 18-30, last in all of BARB. In the latest act of domination, BM starters Curt Schilling and Justin Verlander combined for just four runs in 16-plus innings, and Scott Rolen drove in seven runs on the day, including his third homer of the year.

FROSTBITE FALLS 3, OAKEYLAND 0 (1st game of DH)
WP: Johann Santana (6-2, 2.36)
LP: Joe Kennedy (3-2, 3.30)

OAKEYLAND13, FROSTBITE FALLS 1 (2nd game of DH)
WP: Ben Sheets (3-3, 4.53)
LP: Tim Hudson (3-6, 4.30)

Johann Santana allowed just two singles (one in the fourth, one in the eighth) in throttling the Ballers in the opener, but Oakeyland’s bats awoke in the second half of the twin bill, scoring a season-high thirteen runs to keep the Squirrels (losers of six of their last ten) at the .500 mark (24-24) on Game Day 46. Andruw Jones (#11) and Nick Swisher (#10) each homered for the Ballers, who moved within five games of Central-leading Las Vegas.

WORCESTER 1, POTTSYLVANIA 0
WP: Eric Bedard (5-4, 2.76)
LP: Randy Johnson (1-3, 4.18)

‘The Big Unit’ had his best-ever start in 2007, allowing one run in eight frames, but still took the loss, as Elims starter Eric Bedard (fresh off the season’s first no-no) ran his scoreless innings streak to 18. Since losing on May 11th to Yuma, Bedard has allowed only four hits and has posted back-to-back shutouts, as did Firebirds starter Carlos Zambrano earlier this season. The sole run scored when Garret Atkins singled home Derek Jeter in the fourth.

S-MART 4, BROOKLYN 3
WP: Nate Robertson (3-6, 3.60)
LP: Chien-Ming-Wang (0-2, 4.40)

The Moabs had their winning streak stopped at five games, as the host Boom Sticks scored twice in the eighth to edge the visitors. Casey Blake hit his third homer of the season to extend his hitting streak to a career-high twelve games, but it wasn’t enough to beat Nate Robertson, who ended up going the distance to give the Boom Sticks’ injury-depleted bullpen a breather.

ARIZONA 13, YUMA 12 (10 innings)
WP: Fernando Cabrera (1-1, 4.32)
LP: Rafael Soriano (1-2, 3.25)
SV: Grienke (2)

Carlos Beltran homered in the fourth, keyed a game-tying three-run rally in the top of the ninth with a run-scoring single, and hit the game-winning sac fly in the top of the tenth as the visitors won a desperate game against division-leading Yuma. Despite the marathon win, the Firebirds are still just 22-24, six-and-a-half games behind their sibling rival’s squad.

LAS VEGAS 5, DARWIN 4
WP: Brett Myers (4-4, 4.70)
LP: Trevor Hoffman (1-2, 4.70)

Central-leading Las Vegas won its seventh straight contest, leaving both them and Darwin with identical 27-19 records, as the Luchadores cashed in a ninth-inning error by SS Carlos Guillen to rally against Trevor Hoffman and edge the visiting Finches. David Ortiz hit his BARB-leading 18th homer in a losing cause for the Finches.
