GET YER ALL-STARS....RIGHT HERE!

As I write this post on Friday the 29th of July, BARB teams have now all played anywhere from 79 to 86 games. Thus, we are at the season's effective halfway point, and it is now time to select the league's All-Stars! With that in mind, I am providing you a ballot with the top 5-6 at each position for players, and the top 20 pitchers, listed alphabetically by position with some key stats in BARB noted. I hope everyone will chime in the comments with how they would rank the players in question, and (with a little luck) we can have a little fun with whatever player files GM's select! Here are my rankings. I did some more research into the players numbers and i found players that i thought were deserving to be on this list, so i added them. Since i don't have defensive #'s im going off of there percieved abilities that scouts have given them.

I will be creating a 28 man roster, with a back-up at each position and a DH selection, meaning there will be 17 position players and 11 pitchers (8 SP, 3 Relievers). Ill do the pitchers another day to the essence of time

C:

McCann
Jaso
Hernandez
Montero
Martinez

I tried to make sure everyone had at least 200 ABs, but 188 is close enough..and McCann is clearly the most impactful hitter of all catchers. I mean c'mon,he has fewer at bats than most catchers on this list, and he has as many if not more extra base hits and walks then they do. His OPS is the highest if im not mistaken and his is playable behind the plate. Jaso is quietly having a nice all around season is playing better than hernandez, who just has a sexier average. I did not rank posey because he is done for the year with injuries

1B:

Votto
Cabrera
Pujols
Gonzo
Howard

its like splitting hairs between the top two...call me biased..and your right, but my reasons for votto over cabrera: higher avg, OBP, OPS, drawn more walks, far superior defender, and hey, have you ever seen cabrera steal a base? lol. Cabrera has a higher SLG, more HR, and RBI's...either way, both are deserving and Im sure James would agree with me. Pujols is having a terrific season, but i do not feel he is playing better than either Cabrera or Votto

2B

Cano
Pedrioa
Weeks
Kinsler
Phillips

Cano is ahead of Pedrioa only because of luck...literally. Both are run producers who are driving the ball incredibly well and both play a good 2B, and although Pedrioa has a far better approach at the plate, it's hard to pick a guy whose avg is 41 points lower and both are comparable players. I figure Cano's avg will prolly dip a bit since there isn't much seperation between his OBP and avg, and i expect Pedrioa's numbers to increase, but at the midway point, Cano has the edge, just barely. Weeks has been a dominant offensive force and certainly is worthy of starting, but he is a brutal defender. All three are deserving of a nod in my opinion. Kinsler is having a very underrated season and give some love to kelly johnson, who is driving the ball with the best of them (although he is brooks conrad-esque in the field...sorry eric)

3B

Beltre & Youk tie for 1st
Johnson
AROD

Beltre is starting over Youkin my opinion only because he is a superior defender. Both players are having monster offensive season and it wouldn't matter to me who starts, but ill say in my opinion i would have Youk DH instead of play 3B. Chris Johnson, enjoy your fluky first half but ill give credit where credit is due. Zimmerman doesn't belong with only 29 games played

SS

Tulo
Reyes
Scutaro
Hardy
H. Ramirez

Tulo is the best SS in the bigs and in the fantasy world, reyes and is a more dynamic player than scutaro, who is having a fine all around season. Give some love to JJ Hardy, who is having a very underrated season

OF

Bautista
CarGo
Choo
Werth
Holliday
Hart
Ichiro

OK, bautista avg stinks, but no batter is striking more fear in BARB hurlers than he is. CarGo is having a ridiculous first half, and i do not think much separates the next four, though i think Hart is the less likely of the four to keep it up. Ill choose Choo over Werth, simply because he has shown better strike zone discipline, although Werth is driving the ball with slightly more authority and is currently healthy and Holliday isn't as good as either player defensively and is SLG at a lighter clip than both

Morneau should make the squad in some way shape or form. Since I'm not sure how this team should be put together, here is my list of all-star starters and back-ups

C: McCann
1B: Votto
2B: Cano
3B: Beltre

DH: Youkilis

Bench:

Jaso
Cabrera
Pedrioa
Reyes
Holliday
Hart
Morneau

Ichiro

Here are the 8 starting pitchers i feel deserve to be on the all-star staff:

Halladay
Lincecum
Lee
CC
Hellickson
Price
F. Hernandez
D. Hudson

some others i thought were deserving of consideration (in order):

Kershaw
Weaver
Marcum
Kuroda
Hasnon
Oswalt
Latos

For relievers, the top 3 in my opinion happen to be all closers:

B. Wilson
Mariano
Papelbon

players deserving of consideration (in order)

Bell
Street
Clippard
Madson
Freri
Marmol

well, that's my official 28 man BARB All-Star roster. What are your thoughts?

29 total all-stars, with Choo missing the game due to injury and being replaced by one of the four that should be considered to replace him

(personally, Pujols should win the final spot in a vote to replace Choo)

i just realized Morneau was hurt...to replace Morneau, i would choose Weeks

Ok well ill take a shot first at the position players and chris, I will steal your format to make it easier.

C: Came up with the same guys

Id have to pick McCann, best offensive numbers by far at a weak position. Jaso is probably the most unexpected and while Montero's numbers are solid they arent necessarily all star worthy

1B: Lets be honest. Votto, Cabrera, and Pujols all deserve to go and they should all be on the roster one way or another. I agree that Votto and Cabrera are a coinflip. Attempting to take an unbiased approach, I dont ever look for the 1b type to steal bags or do anything other than knock guys in as 1b and dh are the only positions true power hitters can man ( a few can do the outfield but thats rare and they're often a defensive liability ) Votto is better on defense but Cabrera isnt a liability. but Id start Cabrera with Votto just a hair behind him.

2B : Its tough between Cano and Pedroia but pedroia is showing ridiculous power numbers and cano has his typical high batting avg and high obp. Id always take the guy with the higher average however, sorry petey!

3B: Id have to say Beltre simply because hes carrying Brooklyn if you look at the stats. Youkilis should make the team as well and could just as easily be the starter with his high obp and runs scored.

SS: A weak offensive position. I think Asdrubal cabrera could have been on this list as well but If I had a gun pointed at my head id choose Reyes simply because of the year he's having in barb and in real life ( he's bound to have a monstrous second half if he can stay healthy )

OF : Cargo Definitely makes the list as does Bautista for obvious reasons. I think Hart should have a fighting chance at the 3rd spot in the of in not DH in Morneau's absence due to injury. His second half may not be as good as his first half but we're judging them based on what theyve done so far right? Holliday is also having an excellent season so he shouldnt be overlooked. Also Choo and Cargo are hurt so that narrows the list..

C: McCann
1B: Cabrera
2B: Cano
3B: Beltre
SS: Reyes
LF: Bautista
CF: CarGo
RF: Hart

Ill get to the pitchers later but I think atleast one or two guys who arent necessarily closers need some love ( holds count too ! )

Starting pitching:

Halladay
Lincecum
Lee
CC
Ubaldo
Price
F. Hernandez
Marcum

Relievers :

I had a top 5 and theyre all closers:

Mariano Rivera
Jonathan Papelbon
Heath Bell
Brian Wilson
Chris Perez

Guys I left off who deserve to go (in no order) :

Carlos Marmol
Johnny Venters
Roy Oswalt (Injured)
Mike Adams

Probably left a few people out but guys with good stats with lots of IP passed up guys with excellent stats and few IP
