MAKING MOVES OUT WEST

Dueling for a playoff spot, the sibling rivalry which is Melkonian-Land saw both Lexington and Yuma make moves for the stretch.

LEXINGTON:

The Rebels were very aggressive, calling up OF Jay Bruce to fill the roster spot of slugger Carlos Lee, who is likely lost for the season with a fractured finger, as well as adding RHP Joey DeVine in place of injured David Riske. The club also cut an ineffective J.C. Romero, eating the lefty's salary after acquiring him a few weeks back from the Boom Sticks.

A further concern for Lexington is the status of 2B Brandon Phillips, who (like Lee) has a fractured finger. Phillips has has pins placed in his hand, and has not yet been assigned to the DL, but it remains to be seen whether he will be able to play at all for the Rebels.

YUMA:

Disgusted with his performance, the Firebirds have sent Manny Corpas to the minors and have reinstated Matt Capps in the closer's role, backed up the statuesque Jon Rauch and the increasingly pedestrian Trevor Hoffman. The Firebirds also recalled 1B/DH Travis Hafner from a minor-league rehab, returning promising youngster Billy Butler to the high minors.

Hatfield, I hope you mean Phillips hasn't been placed on the BARB DL yet. He went on the DL in the bigs on September 12.
