BROOKLYN 1, FROSTBITE FALLS 0
WP: Matt Lindstrom (2-3, 4.49)
LP: Tim Lincecum (8-9, 3.38)
Fausto Carmona and Tim Lincecum both took no-hitters into the fifth inning, and Carmona would combine with Taylor Tankersley and Linsdstrom on a one-hitter as the Moabs edged the visiting Squirrels on just five hits, with Joakim Soria allowing an RBI double to Brian McCann with two out in the bottom of the ninth, a walkoff job that put the Moabs (68-53) nine-and-a-half games out of second in the East.
BLACK MESA 7, LAS VEGAS 2
WP: Justin Verlander (9-14, 4.43)
LP: Jered Weaver (10-10, 4.57)
Adam Dunn hit his team-leading 28th homer of the year as part of a three-run second, and the Luchadores (70-65) lost for only the third time in their last 14 games, good enough for a six-and-a-half game in the Central Division. Justin Verlander took a shutout into the seventh before settling for two runs over eight-plus frames, and the Anomalies (who have reached the point of elimination) staved off the cut from contention for one more day.
S-MART 4, CASSELTON 3
WP: Jose Valverde (6-5, 3.07)
LP: Jon Garland (12-9, 4.32)
Jon Garland went the distance, but the Boom Sticks made a go-ahead rally in the eighth stand up on back-to-back singles by Dan Uggla and Xavier Nady. At 55-79, S-Mart has been pretty much drilled out of a contention since the All-Star Break and barring an epic collapse on Vegas’s part seem likely to be eliminated sometime during the upcoming week.
YUMA 6, OAKEYLAND 5
WP: Jon Rauch (8-3, 4.35)
LP: Scott Shields (5-4, 4.38)
Rookie SS Yuniel Escobar started three DP’s, on unassisted, stole a base and scored the tying run, then hit a go-ahead single in the ninth to help the Rebels edge visiting Oakeyland. Yuma (77-58) has a two-and-a-half game with just 17 games to play.
