BROOKLYN 5, S-MART 3
WP: Micah Owings (9-4, 4.36)
LP: John Maine (3-12, 4.75)
SV: Rodriguez (24)
SS Troy Tulowitzki, just off his second trip to the DL this season, singled home two runs and OF Jacoby Ellsbury added an RBI triple as the Moabs scored all of their runs in the first three innings and held off a late charge by the Boom Sticks to run their record to 51-44.
To put things in perspective, though, consider that Brooklyn is six games out in the East and three back in the wild card with 57 games to play, and so there are rumblings within the Moabs organization to dangle carrots like LHP Damaso Marte, C Benji Molina and SS Jhonny Peralta . . .
DARWIN 11, LAS VEGAS 5
WP: Chad Billingsley (3-2, 3.38)
LP: Jered Weaver (7-7, 4.21)
2B Placido Polanco hit his fourth HR of the year and scored four times in all to lead the Finches attack, and Chad Billingsley allowed two runs over seven frames to help the Finches improve to a BARB-best 55-36. Milton Bradley also had three hits, and added his team-leading (!) 17th HR.
FROSTBITE FALLS 6, OAKEYLAND 5 (10 innings)
WP: B.J. Ryan (6-0, 5.99)
LP: Bobby Howry (4-2, 3.49)
Edgar Renteria had three hits, including his fifth round-tripper of the year, and scored the game-winning run after leading off the bottom of the tenth with a single as the Squirrels won their BARB-leading tenth extra-inning game.
Frostbite also improved to an amazing 12-0 when tied after seven innings and 18-12 in one-run games, both tops in the league, but despite their fifth straight win the club some call ‘Canada’s Team’ is still three games behind Darwin in the East, 52-39 overall.
WORCESTER 4, POTTSYLVANIA 2
WP: Tim Hudson (4-6, 3.35)
LP: Cliff Lee (5-8, 5.43)
Tim Hudson needed only 103 pitches to go all the way against the Creepers, allowing only one earned run on five hits and two walks and in general dominating Pottsylvania’s threadbare offense. At one point, Hudson had been 1-5 between two clubs and had complained about a lack of run support, but on Game Day 93 he got all he needed from Grady Sizemore, who singled in a run and walked with the bases loaded in his two at-bats as part of Worcester’s four-run fifth, moving the Eliminators (51-41) into third place in the East.
“I feel sensational,” said Hudson after the game. “I’m ready to get on a roll and get us where we should be, headed to the playoffs.”
