LEAGUE PLAY RESUMES

Your Commissioner returned from the joys of vacation to the sorrows of real life. And that means BARB is back in action!

FROSTBITE FALLS 8, BROOKLYN 1

WP: Ben Sheets (2-7, 4.50)
LP: Micah Owings (6-3, 4.33)

Ben Sheets allowed a solo homer to Curtis Granderson in the fourth, but was otherwise unstoppable, fanning 11 Moabs over eight innings, and Carlos Beltran hit a game-clenching home with the bases juiced in the sixth, his 13th round-tripper of the season, as the Squirrels (44-35) kept pace in the East.

WORCESTER 3, DARWIN 2

WP: Erik Bedard (5-5, 3.75)
LP: Randy Johnson (4-3, 2.73)
SV: Guerrier (2)

Erik Bedard struck out a season-high 12 batters, taking advantage of the Finches’ lefty-heavy lineup, but it took three relievers, a muffed hit-and-run play and a long (nearly two hours) rain delay for his teammates to nail down the ninth, as the Eliminators survived a leadoff walk by Aaron Rowand to improve to 44-36, just a half game behind Frostbite Falls.

LAS VEGAS 8, POTTSYLVANIA 6 (10 innings)

WP: Mariano Rivera (3-1, 2.77)
LP: Randy Flores (0-4, 5.07)

Rivera ‘vultured’ a win when his teammates took advantage of a wild (4 BB) Billy Wagner in the top of the tenth after blowing a 6-4 lead in the ninth on the road in Pottsylvania. Creepers C Kenji Johjima tripled in Aramis Ramirez and scored on Chad Tracy’s pinch-single to force extra innings for his club, which still is last in the league in scoring.

CASSELTON 3, LEXINGON 2

WP: Aaron Harang (8-6, 3.23)
LP: Brandon Webb (8-5, 3.49)
SV: Jenks (20)

Working on a shutout, Brandon Webb allowed a pair of two-out home runs to Geovany Soto and Ken Griffey in the eighth, and Bobby Jenks came on to shut down the Rebels (45-37), trimming Lexington’s lead in the West down to just one game.
