As of this writing, the 'typical' BARB club has played 80 games, or 52.6 percent of the projected schedule. Not too bad for late July....
BLACK MESA 4, YUMA 1
WP: Andy Pettite (7-2, 4.11)
LP: Edinson Volquez (2-4, 3.83)
SV: Saito (2)
Adam Dunn’s team-leading 15th homer of the season was a three-run shot in the third, and veteran Andy Pettite took a shutout into the ninth before needing some bullpen help as the Anomalies dropped the visiting Firebirds (45-40) a game-and-a-half behind West-leading Lexington.
WP: Alan Embree (6-2, 3.42)
LP: Brad Lidge (1-5, 6.23)
SV: Isringhausen (1)
Xavier Nady snapped a 2-2 tie leading off the top of the ninth with a homer off Brad Lidge, and long-sidelined closer Jason Isringhausen (3.20 ERA in limited duty) finally collected his first save of the BARB season to help the Boom Sticks improve to 38-40.
WP: Oliver Perez (7-2, 2.91)
LP: Jeremy Guthrie (6-5, 2.84)
Derek Lee and Grady Sizemore both hit home runs off Oliver Perez, but it was a pair of run-scoring hits by Rick Ankiel that helped the Finches build an early 8-0 lead, as the Finches (45-33) snapped a six-game losing streak to maintain a slim lead (1 and ½) in the Eastern Division.
WP: Brett Myers (5-3, 3.15)
LP: Mark Buehrle (6-7, 4.12)
Brett Myers used 121 pitches to go all the way, snuffing the light-hitting Creepers lineup with a five-hitter, and the Luchadores got another home run from CF Matt Holliday, who belted his team-leading 19th boundary blast to give his club an early lead. Rookie 3B Alex Gordon also dialed ‘1’, his ninth of the year, and the Central-leading Luchadores (42-39) held off a late Creepers rally to win their third straight game.
WP: Jensen Lewis (1-0, 2.12)
LP: Jon Garland (8-5, 4.01)
SV: Street (12)
Adrian Gonzalez and Luis Castillo both collected three hits, Upton and Hardy both homered and rookie reliever Jensen Lewis picked up his first-ever BARB win with two scoreless frames, as the Rebels (44-36) won for the seventh time in their last ten games.
WP: Russ Springer (3-0, 4.06)
LP: Scott Baker (4-6, 5.89)
Russ Springer worked five scoreless frames in a spot start, and combined with three other relievers to fan 13 Moabs and Carlos Pena (who struck out four times) made his one hit count, driving a Baker fastball over the wall for an early 3-0 Frostbite lead, as the Squirrels (43-34) leapfrogged two divisional rivals to pull back into second in the rugged East.
