A few brain-teasers, submitted for your approval:
1) What do Pat Burrell, Aaron Cook, Ryan Dempster, J.D. Drew, Ryan Ludwick, Nate McLouth and Joe Saunders all have in common?
A. They were all (originally) drafted by the Phillies
B. They all have Scott Boras as their agent
C. They were all traded by Ronald Melkonian
D. None of them are in BARB, but all of them are going to be in the All-Star Game
2) Black Mesa has allowed a BARB-leading 343 runs so far this season, 23 more runs than they have scored. And yet they have a winning record (32-30, 6th-best in the league). How are they doing it?
A. They have the league's highest-performing bullpen (22-0 with a lead after 7 innings)
B. Adam Dunn, despite a low (.222) batting average, is 2nd in the league in both RBI and walks, for a secondary average of .483, tops among players with 200 or more AB...
C. The secret facility in the American Southwest has powerful pan-dimensional allies
D. A and B.
3) When trailing after seven innings, the Worcester Eliminators are 1-19: that is, they have only been able to rally and win once in 20 times. What causes this?
A. A lack of run production (only two hitters with secondary averages of .300 or higher)
B. A lack of bench strength on the bullpen-heavy roster
C. Lefties tend to neutralize the bottom part of their lineup
D. Lies, lies, lies! There is nothing wrong with this team! It's a conspiracy!
4) What do Bobby Abreu, Jeff Francouer and Raul Ibanez all have in common where BARB is concerned?
A. They are all left-handed hitters who play RF
B. None of them are starting regularly for their respective BARB clubs
C. They have each had 100 or more plate appearances in BARB without homering
D. All of them would be an offensive upgrade compared to Oakeyland's current OF
5) Which of the following aging veterans appears to be washed up?
A. SS Derek Jeter (an eight-figure salary, but riding Worcester's bench at age 33?)
B. C Ivan Rodriguez (35, hitting just .231 with 17 RBI in 240 AB)
C. LHP Tom Glavine (41, 5.36 ERA, has yet to reach the sixth inning this year)
D. OF/1B Scott Hatfield (nearly 46, yanked groin in last Knights softball game)
6) Which sort of player will be in the most demand on the BARB trade market by the end of this summer?
A. Veteran relief help (Brian Fuentes, Eric Gagne, Bobby Howry, Juan Cruz)?
B. Left-handed starting pitching (Andy Pettite, Mark Buehrle, Ted Lilly, Oliver Perez)?
C. Catching depth (Mike Redmond, Ryan Doumit, Benji Molina, Ramon Hernandez)?
D. Anyone who strikes the fancy of the Rebels GM
7) Which BARB club will end up placing the most starters in the major-league All-Star Game? (likely candidates listed in parentheses)
A. Darwin (Lance Berkman, Milton Bradley, Josh Hamilton, Chipper Jones, Placido Polanco)
B. Frostbite (Tim Lincecum, Joe Nathan, Albert Pujols, Ben Sheets, Michael Young)
C. Worcester (Danny Haren, Derek Jeter, Joe Mauer, Hanley Ramirez, Grady Sizemore)
D. Yuma (Ryan Braun, Roy Halladay, Russell Martin, Brian Roberts, Edinson Volquez)
8) Which contending club is most likely to miss the playoffs due to key injuries?
A. The Brooklyn Mo' (strained) Abs?
B. The Darwin Flinches?
C. The Frostbite Falls Grounded Squirrels
D. The Las Vegas Lose-Some-Mores
9) Which club is LEAST likely to make a trade down the stretch?
A. Black Mesa
B. Casselton
C. Oakeyland
D. S-Mart

Well, here are my guesses and comments:
1) D
Funny how they are having great years. Drew is the clear-cut choice for comeback player of the year award and may have a career year at that. He was on my team last year and was going to keep him, but a youth movement in my OF has him the odd man out.
2) A
Really, how can they be that good with such a messed up team and GM (sorry, but he shows zero intrest in the league). Really, I know the pen is his life boat but only so long can it be inflated.
3) A
Well this is an easy one, if your name isn't Matt Caskey. His team is flatly overrated and while having arms is nice, you have other parts of your team needing help. His rotation is very overrated with Young and Bernard doing nothing and his line-up need better hitters (picking up Lee was a horrible choice, well locking him up at least. Sorry millions for a DH and bench guy is dumb!)
4) D
Oakleyland for some reason isn't making moves to stay in the race. Why??? It baffles me why him and Nick decide not to... wait I have a question:
Which 2 Owners never respond to E-Mail messages???
(hint: they have already been mentioned in this comment)
5) B
Clearly, he is producing less and less every year. At least Glavine has vet. experience on the mound and Jeter can still hit .300 with good D. And Mr. Hatfield can still hack it at age 46... don't forget the big HR for a non-Knight team!!!
6) NONE!
Really, has anyone thought about why moves haven't been made without me? Cause most BARB teams have locked themselves up either on purpose or accident. Most can't trade for the following reasons:
- 40 Man Roster filled up
- TOO much salary present
- Franchise/Keeper talent locked up
- Good talent is injured
- Weak depth at a talent wanted
Due to this, trying to find good talent to trade for will almost be impossible.
7) Um can't say cause I haven't been paying attention. I say Darwin cause Berkman and Chipper and Hamilton are first to mind
8) Yuma
Funny how he isn't on there. While much talent, too many key players have been hurt and many will miss more time, leading to a point where he may drop himself out and fire sell. Yes MOABS are messed up, but I don't think they had the talent to go to the playoffs this year.
- Travis Hafner
- Ryan Zimmerman
- Carlos Zambrano
- Matt Capps
- Rafael Soriano
- Phil Huges
And more but I don't know off hand.
9) A
Because he hasn't responded to anything all year!!!
1. C. just a hunch
2. They are really lucky. Kind of like the 07 AZ Dbacks. The pen helps a lot though, so A.
3. D. his team is flawless and this is an atrocity
4. B and D. hopefully the kid has a plan
5. B. Retire and save us all the pain
6. D. He broke the trade counter. If my team crumbles, im sure people will talk for the likes of Guerrero, Halladay, Zambrano...hint.
7. Yuma. I hope master Jake and C.C. get some love. CC has pratically been the best pitcher in baseball. excluding one horrific month
8. I love how the east cries about injuries. have you seen my DL sheet lately? im not going to lie, but my pen and the bottom of my order is going to take a major hit. its possible that i could miss the playoffs.
9. A. i cant get a hold of this guy.
1) D. Big years. and Ludwick slumpped with Albert out of the Line-up.... just saying.
2)D. its not gonna just be 1 of those factors.
3)B. no bench, lots of problems.
4)C.
5) B. just call it a career. and as far as option D. is concerned that was a big 2- out double to at least get that winning run into scoring position.
6)B. smiply because i have LHP's to trade
7)B.
8)D. ...please be D.
9)all but B.
i have captain clutch or mr. november on the bench. can you imagine a better pinch hitter in a tight situation late in the game? my bench is fine with two all-star catchers (both can't play at the same time), Lee and Tex (not everyone uses the DH and whoever else i decided to have on my 25 man roster at the time. My bench is fine.
