NEW BARB SCHEDULE
Central clubs will have less travel this year in a new, 152-game semi-balanced schedule that will see each of the clubs play 64 games outside their division (eight games each against the eight Eastern and Western Division clubs) and a titanic 88 games within their division, 11 home and 11 away against each of their four divisional rivals.
Eastern and Western clubs, in contrast, will play 72 games within their division (12 home and 12 away), 32 games against the Central and 48 games against each other.
“It’s not a perfect solution,” Commissioner Scott Hatfield conceded, “but it avoids the long gaps we saw with the balanced schedule, and the season is a week longer than last year’s 144-game template, and so the league leaders will have totals closer to their historic norms in BARB play. On the down side, there is a pretty good chance that our pennant races will be decided before the final month of play in at last one division. We’ll just have to see.”
