LATE BREAKING NEWS:
The Texas Tornadoes, eager to clear a roster spot for prospects Matt Wieters and Derek Holland, confirmed that they have cut OF Jeff Francouer.
A highly-touted original pick of the Darwin Finches, Francouer hit .281 last year in 280 at-bats as a bench player with the Eastern Division champions, but was let go by new GM Ryne O'Connor this off-season, unprotected in the draft, where he was taken by Tornados GM Ronald Melkonian. But Texas quickly soured on his usefulness, preferring to start former Lexington OF Jeremy Hermida in RF along with CF Ichiro Suzuki and LF Andre Ethier (not a bad trio, you must admit). With Texas given to running a regular lineup out there every day and not platooning, Francouer has been limited entirely to pinch-hitting and late-inning defensive substitution.
Francouer is now a free agent who can be signed by any BARB club on a first come, first served basis.
