TEXAS MILKS, THEN DEALS GARZA

TEXAS MILKS, THEN DEALS GARZA

Las Vegas—In what was surely one of the more ironic moves of the season, the Texas Tornadoes traded away one of their top arms (Matt Garza) just hours after Garza (4-6, 2.86) had dominated the host Luchadores in a 4-1 victory. Garza went the distance, allowing a solo shot to Matt Holliday (his 11th) but otherwise cruising to best Ervin Santana (0-3, 5.49). But keeping Garza in a Texas ‘uni’? Not a chance!

Instead, the Tornadoes dealt Garza to the Frostbite Falls Flying Squirrels for a prospect (RHP Rick Porcello) and a player to be named, likely an outfield prospect. As GM ‘Trader Ron’ Melkonian mysteriously put it, “Texas has completed it's quest to fill all 9 starting positions for 2010 and beyond! Also, we have acquired a much more talented pitcher in Porcello who's celling is higher than Garza's. What he has accomplished at 20 years old is impressive and should only get better. He is the example of an #1 in development, while Garza is a solid #2.”

As for Frostbite Falls, there was no official word on the trade but it was believed that Garza would step instantly into the Squirrels rotation to fill the spot of the inconsistent Armando Gallaraga. Team officials indicated more information would be made on their blog.

In other BARB action:

DARWIN 9, ST. FRANCIS 3

WP: Zack Grienke (4-1, 3.25)
LP: Jamie Moyer (2-5, 5.02)
SV: Okajima (4)

Jamie Moyer took a no-hitter into the sixth, but could only watch from the bench in horror as the host Finches scored six times in the seventh to wax the floor with Friars pitching. Once-and-again Finches OF Jeff Francouer, in his first game back with Darwin, tripled with the bases loaded off reliever Kyle Davies to tie the game, then scored what would end up being the winning run on a single by Yadier Molina. Aaron Rowand added a two-run double to round out the inning, and when Adam LaRoche homered in the following frame, the rout was on.

BLACK MESA 5, POTTSYLVANIA 4

WP: Takashi Saito (7-0, 0.86)
LP: Cliff Lee (4-3, 3.54)
SV: Papelbon (12)

Franklin Guttierrez doubled in the go-ahead run off Manny Delcarmen and the incredible Saito Vulture Parade continues, as the Anomalies again scored a key run in a tie game with the Central League product on the mound and Jonathan Papelbon made things stand up to edge the visiting Creepers. Of course, this was only after Saito had spoiled things for Kevin Millwood, who had allowed only one run in seven frames to outduel Cliff Lee.

CASSELTON 7, YUMA 4

WP: Johann Santana (5-3, 3.29)
LP: C.C. Sabathia (4-4, 4.21)

SS Mike Aviles had four hits, including a go-ahead double, but left the game clutching his right elbow, a bad sign for a club that already lacks middle infield depth due to a season-ending injury to Rickie Weeks. Surging power hitter Mike Napoli hit his team-leading 16th (!) HR, then was plunked in each of his next two at-bats by Yuma relievers. The Horned Toads (26-17) finished an 8-2 road trip to retain their lead in the Central.

Ok lets break it down:

Arrieta isn't in the majors so he is a wild card: he can't stop walking people so thats a big negative..

Maine sucks.. look at the way he is doing this season..

Stanton is about two years away from the majors..

Bard can't control his stuff in the majors.. but relievers are a dime-a-dozen and since he won't close, there are always relievers out there to get in the draft!!

... who did I get:

Garza is a pitcher on the rise.. but is not far from his 30's, faces the toughest teams due to his division, and has control issues.. I dealt him for something better!!

Jackson yeah that was a bust cause he got hurt (actually sick: valley fever, so very unlucky!!), otherwise an OK player

but the gems are Porcello and my PTBN.. totally worth what I dealt!!

Porcello is worth more than, and is better than Maine, Arrieta, and Garza... and throw in my PTBN and its totally worth it and fits the way my team is set-up..

close to his 30's?

thats one of the dumbest statements i've heard. garza is 25.
man ron your gonna be 24, thats too close to your thirites. you might as well trade cabrera and david wright if u had them

there far too close to 30. sizemore has no shot. nor does braun or markakis. hell, tim lincecum is creeping close to his 30s. andrew, deal him no before its too late!

About BARD:

It is simple, aside from his couple recent outings, he has walked 10 batters in 21.1 innings; so almost half of the innings he pitched.. its nice that he K's people (He should; has great stuff), but still he walks and will walk too many people

BUT AGAIN, I'm not trying to say he is a horrible reliever; he is a good one. The point is that in BARB, unless your a closer and a good one at that, relievers don't hold much value at all; main reason is that every year you can find someone who had a great year, only to see them tank the following. Most aren't consistant and we don't know how BARD will be. The one's who are consistant will be worth something, but since every year come draft day there are many other relievers (not closers) available, the value of a reliever isn't that much; again, relievers are a dime-a-dozen!!

About Jake Arrieta:

Your giving me his stats between between BOW and INT (AAA).. he has only made 5 freaken starts so far, with one of them being a bad outing. Let's see how he does. He is considered to be the 3rd best of the 3 (Tillman and Matuz) and control has been his biggest problem with him; I don't care what his stats show, it is a fact he has been plagued with control problems for a while. Again, he won't be in the majors till next season, and you may not get much mileage/usage out of him until 2011..

Stanton won't wiff the majors unitl probably late 2010; in reality, he won't be there till 2011 which mean unless he tears it up, he won't even make a dent in BARB till 2012..

LONG WAYS TO GO;

Porcello, my PTBN are top prospects, with high ceilings, very young, and progressing very well in the MAJORS!! big difference. at least we know how they are adjusting and all that surrounds Arrieta and Stanton is ??????????

So really they are just names on a piece of paper; you cannot use them and will be waiting a while... well see how BARD does, but again, this season there are again new relievers having great seasons who we can take in the draft next year; outperforming BARD easily.

OH and Garza will be 26 this year; 27 next season.. my bad

ron is the biggest hypocrite you will ever meet

take his words with a grain of salt

he defends his players to the death then undercuts them heavily when there dealt. arrieta is a prime example. ron thought he would be as good if not better than tillman and matusz
