Obviously, clubs like Worcester, Darwin, Frostbite Falls, Yuma and Brooklyn can all be expected to be in position for a playoff spot based on the consistency of recent past performance.
Other clubs, like Black Mesa, Fresno and Casselton are showing signs of contending, but the jury is still out.
Why does this matter? Because the trade winds will naturally flow from those who don't have much hope of the playoffs this year to those clubs where hopes are high. Typically, in the stretch drive, the biggest need is likely to be starting pitching (especially the southpaw variety). That means that the established starters who are tearing it up right now in MLB are the ones most likely to be offered in trade, IF their present clubs is out of the money.
