LAS VEGAS 4, POTTSYLVANIA 1
WP: A.J. Burnett (2-1, 2.90)
LP: Yovanni Gallardo (0-1, 3.77)
SV: Rivera (7)
Recently-activated Yovanni Gallardo eventually found his groove,’ but came up on the short end of the stick when he allowed Prince Fielder’s BARB-leading 11th HR (and 6th in his last 10 games) as part of a three-run first. Mariano Rivera got the final four outs for his BARB-leading 7th save of the season, as the Luchadores won for the seventh time in their last ten games.
S-MART 9, OAKEYLAND 3
WP: Javier Vasquez (2-1, 3.25)
LP: Joe Blanton (1-3, 4.97)
Surging Alex Rodriguez drove in five runs on four hits, including a pair of home runs, as the Boom Sticks detonated Joe Blanton and the Ballers at home in S-Mart (where ever that is!). "A-Rod", who is battling some leg woes, is 11-for-29 with 5 HR over his last seven games and, with 11 round-trippers, is tied with Vegas’s Prince Fielder for the BARB lead.
WORCESTER 5, BLACK MESA 4
WP: Jesse Litsch (2-0, 3.68)
LP: Jarrod Washburn (0-4, 7.25)
SV: Bell (2)
The Eliminators took a 5-0 lead into the seventh, where rookie Jesse Litsch finally stubbed his toe, but held on to again even their record at 10-10 as Joaquin Benoit and Heath Bell put up the zeroes in relief of Litsch after the tiring youngster hung a 3-1 curveball to Adam Dunn to cap a four-run inning.
CASSELTON 6, FROSTBITE FALLS 3
WP: Kevin Correia (1-1, 4.21)
LP: Rich Hill (1-2, 6.61)
SV: Jenks (5)
Rookie Geovany Soto had a perfect day at the plate and shepherded journeyman starter Kevin Correia to the bullpen, and the Horned Toads finally snapped a nine-game losing streak to improve to 7-17. Casselton has allowed a league-leading 137 runs through its first 24 games, and has been hard hit by a schedule with a pair of early doubleheaders taxing its beleaguered bullpen.
DARWIN 4, YUMA 3
WP: Cla Meredith (2-0, 2.35)
LP: Jake Peavy (2-4, 2.45)
SV: Putz (1)
J.J. Putz, just off the DL, finally garnered his first save of the year as he and his bullpen mates did what they could not do last October, shutting down the defending world champs who had shown a knack for rallying and winning on the road. Lance Berkman hit his third homer of the year to give Chad Billingsley an early lead, but the frustrated spot starter had to leave after four innings of work having walked six batters.
