Well, as I'm sure everyone realizes, my gamble in trading for the RIGHTS to Jason Varitek blew up in my face when Black Mesa took him off my roster.

That sent me to Plan B, but Yuma wasn't biting on my trade offer for Molina.

So I bit the bullet and took Molina, giving up a pick. I needed an upgrade behind the plate, more with the leather than anything else, and Molina's young enough to bide some time while I wait to see if either Saltalamacchia or Jeff Clement can win a regular job in the big leagues.

Speaking of Yuma, their selection of Brian Matusz was the first college player taken, and with good reason: Matusz is widely expected to be the first pitcher, and perhaps the first player to be taken out of the colleges this year, a guaranteed first-round pick.

BTW, my nephew went 2-for-4 last year against Matusz. The harder they throw it, the more he likes it. Now, if we can just get him to not chase the soft-tossers...

I should correct myself and say my wife's nephew, lest anyone think I'm boasting....

Yeah so Sergio Romo (who skipped AA because he posted a 1.60 ERA in fall ball) struck out the side in the Giants vs. Grizzlies game tonight. 3 strike outs in 1 inning, proving the 2 K/inning for San Jose was no joke, this one being against major league players. Just saying, keep an eye out.
