GAME DAY 119

BROOKLYN 7, DARWIN 6 (11 innings)
WP: Bob Wickman (3-3, 2.47)
LP: Tom Glavine (11-8, 4.25)
SV: Rodriguez (26)

On a cold, wet day Chad Billingsley was forced to retire in the fourth after a pair of rain delays, and the Finches bullpen simply ran out of bullets, with normal fifth starter Tom Glavine giving up the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th on a double by Bobby Abreu. Coming on the heels of the demotion of ineffective Oliver Perez to AAA, the Finches may be forced to call up another minor-leaguer to fill in for their increasingly-strained staff: both rookie Jonathan Sanchez and closer Trevor Hoffman also blew leads in this disaster....

FROSTBITE FALLS 10, WORCESTER 7
WP: Rich Hill (7-5, 5.86)
LP: Doug Davis (1-2, 6.38)
SV: Nathan (26)

Morgan Ensberg hit a three-run homer as part of a four-run fourth, and the Squirrels overcame a poor start (6 runs allowed) by Rich Hill with a barrage of big flies, including venerable Barry Bonds’s 22nd of the season. With the win, the Squirrels pulled within a game-and-a-half off slumping Worcester, which has lost seven of their last eleven contests.

ARIZONA 4, LAS VEGAS 2
WP: Felix Hernandez (6-5, 4.56)
LP: Scott Olsen (8-1, 3.16)

"King Felix" went all the way for his first complete game of the year, overcoming solo homers by Matt Holliday and Manny Ramirez, and his teammates, led by Pudge Rodriguez, gave the D-Backs starter just enough offense to make it stand up. Rodriguez, who was hitting .246 right before the trade deadline, has been one of the league’s hottest hitters the last two weeks, and has raised his average to a season-high .280.

YUMA 9, OAKEYLAND 4
WP: Carlos Zambrano (10-7, 3.60)
LP: Joe Blanton (6-10, 5.03)

Vernon Wells and Ryan Braun both homered, and a wild (7 BB) Carlos Zambrano somehow escaped with a win after loading the bases three times as the Firebirds became just the second BARB club to reach the 70-win mark. The Ballers were hurt by bad baserunning, as both Orlando Cabrera and Mark Ellis were caught stealing to end rallies.

S-MART 7, SAN JOSE 4
WP: Tim Wakefield (4-6, 4.96)
LP: Aaron Harang (8-10, 4.72)

New Boom Stick hurler Tim Wakefield twirled a complete game with the dancer, Alex Rodriguez hit his 24th HR (and 15th since the All-Star Break) as the visitors leaped to an early lead against host San Jose, the club’s fourth straight win.
