WORCESTER LEADS EAST STARS TO VICTORY

Robinson Cano's hustle turned a one-out line drive to right center off Brandon Webb into a triple, leading to the 2007 BARB All-Star Game's first run, and his glove handled five chances flawlessly as the Worcester 2B led the Atlantic club to a 4-2 victory as the 'visitors'.

Cano's teammates, no-hit hurlers Eric Bedard and Danny Haren, were similarly dominant in the affair, allowing no hits in their three innings of work, with Haren getting the win after Darwin 3B Chipper Jones' grounder brought in Cano, and another Elim (SS Derek Jeter) scored on a throwing error by Yuma RF Vladimir Guerrero. The Atlantic led, 2-0 after four innings, and the Pacific club would never get that close: Las Vegas OF Matt Holliday stroked a solo homer leading off the bottom of the fifth against Frostbite Falls reliever Pat Neshek, the first hit of the game for the Pacific stars, but in the top of the next inning the Atlantic put together two more runs on a pinch-single by Worcester C Joe Mauer and an RBI grounder by Brooklyn CF Ichiro Sukuki: 4-1, Atlantic!

Darwin reliever J.J. Putz, the sixth Eastern pitcher, gave up an unearned run when teammate Carlos Guillen booted a routine grounder, but in the end the Pacific Stars could only muster two hits in the contest and had to feel lucky to push two runs across under the circumstances.
