PENNY WISE, POUND FOOLISH?

In a surprising move, the Las Vegas Luchadores have dealt All-Star RHP Brad Penny to the defending world champion Frostbite Falls Flying Squirrels for 2B Tadahito Iguchi.

Penny is having an outstanding season this year and would seem to have more to offer a team in a pennant race than a decent but undistinguished second baseman like Iguchi. More than one teammate, though, pointed to Penny's poor conditioning as a cause for concern. "He's been great this year," one of them said. "He wants to win, and I like him. But if you saw him in the locker room you'd know why he wears that puffy oversized shirt. He likes to eat, and he doesn't like to work out. There's a reason he's been hurt a lot each of the last few years."

Some sort of move has been hinted at for several weeks, as more and more attention came to be focused on Alfonso Soriano's play at second for Las Vegas. For more on the 'ins' and 'outs' of this deal, check out both team's blogs, especially this article here.
