GAME DAY 73 ACTION!

BLACK MESA 5, S-MART 2

WP: Justin Verlander (5-2, 3.64)
LP: Jose Valverde (2-3, 4.31)
SV: Papelbon (15)

Justin Verlander struck out eight, Justin Morneau had three hits and Hideki Matsui scored twice, once on his second homer of the season to lead the Anomalies over the visiting Boom Sticks. SS Alex Rodriguez, left off the BARB All-Star ballot due to a horrendous (.194) May, had two hits, perhaps showing signs of coming out of his slump.

BROOKLYN 5, DARWIN 2

WP: Roy Oswalt (10-2, 2.66)
LP: Scott Kazmir (7-5, 3.98)

Roy Oswalt became the second pitcher to reach the 10-win mark in BARB with a masterful complete game, and Casey Blake continued his torrid streak after taking over at third for the injured Hank Blalock, homering twice and driving in four runs as the Moabs improved to 40-35, just five games out of first in the competitive East.

ARIZONA 10, POTTSYLVANIA 5

WP: Cole Hamels (3-4, 6.53)
LP: Adam Wainwright (2-3, 6.75)
SV: Greinke (3)

David Wright and Carlos Delgado both hit early two-run homers against Adam Wainwright, and staff-saver Zack Greinke worked the final three innings in relief to nail down the win for an erratic (6 BB) Cole Hamels, as the host D-Backs (36-37) pondered what sort of move could get them out of the second division.

YUMA 6, LAS VEGAS 5 (10 innings)

WP: Rafael Soriano (6-3, 3.32)
LP: Brandon Lyon (0-1, 6.10)

Jake Peavy was knocked out by a five-run first, but Matt Cain posted seven-plus innings of no-run ball in relief, rookie Ryan Braun hit a pair of homers, including a game-tying shot against Chuck James and Travis Hafner led off the bottom of the 10th with a walkoff blast off Brandon Lyon as the Firebirds (47-24) stole a win from visiting Las Vegas.

WORCESTER 8, FROSTBITE FALLS 3

WP: Chris Young (6-4, 4.23)
LP: Rich Hill (3-3, 6.35)

Garret Atkins drove in four runs with a double and his ninth homer of the season and Chris Young worked seven strong innings as the East-leading Elims (44-29) dealt the host Squirrels, mired in last, another blow in their attempt to get back into the divisional race.

SAN JOSE 6, OAKEYLAND 2

WP: Jarrod Washburn (4-6, 5.11)
LP: Joe Blanton (5-4, 3.98)
SV: McCarthy (1)

Freddy Sanchez had three doubles and Adrian Gonzalez and Torii Hunter both went deep, handing the Ballers just their second loss in ten games, as the Rockets (29-47) won a rare one on the road in Oakeyland.
