Contrary to the commercial, it can't stay in Vegas.
It has to be dealt with, by the league. It appears that the GM candidate for this franchise has not met certain requirements for ownership, and must thus be rejected and the Vegas franchise placed in receivership.
"This is a very sad day," commented League Commissioner Scott Hatfield, "but it does not obscure our duty to go forward with league operations. I'm naming an executive team of Omar Minaya and Jim Bowden to deal with day-to-day operations and make sure the club is in compliance with league operational policies."
Minaya will assume the functional title of GM, with Bowden in charge of player development. The organization's first move was to ink veteran 3B Scott Rolen to a one-year, guaranteed contract. Minor-league contracts were given to LHP Scott Olsen, C Rod Barajas, utilityman Chris Burke and reliever C.J. Wilson.
