Fausto Carmona took a shutout into the ninth before allowing a solo HR to Jose Guillen, and Miguel Cabrera belted two of Brooklyn's four homers and drove in five runs as the Moabs (64-61) stayed within a dozen games of the wild card spot.

Leading the visiting Eliminators 5-3, former Worcester starter Danny Haren allowed solo home runs to Hanley Ramirez and Jermaine Dye (his second of the contest) to tie the game at 5-5, setting up a ninth against Huston Street, who allowed a pinch-double by Joe Mauer which scored a pair of runs, sending the Rebels (71-59) to their third straight loss.

Rookie Tim Lincecum took a shutout and nine strikeouts into the seventh before needing some relief help, and just-activated C Victor Martinez contributed with a single and a sac fly as the visiting Squirrels improved to a BARB-leading 77-49, one game ahead of Darwin and just four games ahead of the hard-charging Elims in the ever-tightening Western Division.

Given a chance to make the ninth in his first start with the Finches, former Creepers ace Gil Meche showed his potential as an innings eater, going all the way to win his Darwin debut with help from new teammate Placido Polanco, who drove in two runs with three hits and turned a pair of inning-ending double plays on his own.
