"The Darwin Finches are a reality-based club," commented manager PZ Myers, in announcing the loss of two powerful bats, IF Carlos Guillen and OF Rick Ankiel. "We hate to lose these guys, but after being very careful and deliberate, including polling other clubs in the league, we just can't see these guys as realistically making a contribution."
Guillen, battling a sore back, has hit .252 with 11 HR and 42 RBI for the Unnatural Selections in 111 games, providing unusual versatility, starting at all four infield spots. Ankiel, meanwhile, had batted .265 with 17 HR and 65 RBI in 106 games and playing everywhere in the outfield. Since their loss deprives the club of a certain amount of flexibility, the Finches confirmed that they would call up utility IF Mark Loretta (who is just 2-for-19 in 17 games with Darwin this season).
Organization people were looking very carefully at the last (25th) spot opened up by Ankiel's reassignment. "This will probably be the very last move we make," said one team official, "so we want to make sure we get it right. Tim Wakefield's an option. He's certainly given the staff a lift with his ability to work innings. But we also have to wonder if whether we should add another lefty, like Jonathan Sanchez, or if we need another guy. Max Scherzer is really throwing hard down at AAA, having been clocked at 99, but he's been a bust so far with us (0-1, 14.34). We'll just have to see."

Bravo on the tough decision. It is in the league's interest to do so with the two players. Thanks for the poll as it served to energize this sluggish league.
