Jimmy Rollins set the tone, reaching base to leadoff the game when he was hit by rookie Garrett Olson, then coming around all the way from first on Matt Holliday’s double. A flustered Olson then hung a curveball to Prince Fielder, who hit it halfway to another kingdom for his team-leading 38th boundary belt of the season. With the win, the Luchadores (69-62) have won their season-high eleventh straight game and now lead the moribund Central Division by six-and-a-half games with just 21 games to play.

POTTSYLVANIA 3, OAKEYLAND 1

Cliff Lee fanned eight Ballers while reaching the eighth, and Matt Kemp, finally getting some regular playing time with Abreu out, homered in the second to give the Creepers all the runs they need. Despite the win, however, Jeff Moore’s troops were formally eliminated from the post-season by Las Vegas’s 11th straight win, and they thus became the first team to be eliminated this season.

DARWIN 7, BLACK MESA 6

Kevin Gregg and the rest of the Darwin bullpen blew a 6-4 lead, allowing six consecutive baserunners to start what would become a four-run eighth for the host Anomalies, but in the top of the tenth Chipper Jones hit a clutch single to score Cristian Guzman and the sporadically-used J.J. Putz, still rounding into form, worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the frame to preserve the victory. With the win, the Finches (78-50) have won their fifth straight, and fourth since acquiring RHP Gil Meche to fill out their rotation. Darwin now leads the Eastern Division by the narrowest of margins over Frostbite Falls, with Worcester still in striking range at four-and-a-half back and 24 games left to play.

YUMA 7, FROSTBITE FALLS 4

Sabathia allowed the tying run to score in the top of the seventh, but his teammates then rallied for three runs off the Squirrels bullpen, capitalizing on a pair of infield errors (Renteria, Young) and another clutch performance by Nick Markakis, the Firebirds hottest hitter down the stretch. Markakis hit his 17th circuit shot in the first to give Yuma a 3-0 lead at the time, and it was hit two-run single in the bottom of the seventh that gave the Firebirds the margin of victory this time.

With the win, Yuma (75-57) achieved its greatest lead over division rival Lexington in many moons, a two-game margin with 20 games left to play in the Western Division.
